      The City of Pasadena Public Works Department is currently seeking Maintenance Assistants to perform general maintenance and laboring duties.       IDEAL CANDIDATE
      The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a good attitude, be dependable, and a team player. The candidate will perform general maintenance and laboring duties in a variety of areas including construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, sewers and storm drains, forestry, traffic signs and painting, graffiti removal, and department assigned Public Works related duties.The major responsibilities of this position are listed below.       If assigned to Forestry:
      • Perform skilled functions related to small tree care, clearance pruning and tree removals.
      • Tree planting and tree watering.
      • Tree staking and staking removal.
      • Prune large and small tree pruning.
      • Tree stump removal.
      • Maintain and promote a safe work environment using I.S.A. Tree Care Standards and Crew Safety.
      • Set up traffic control using cones/barricades.
      • Other related duties as assigned.
      If assigned to Graffiti Abatement and Paint:
      • Operates paint striper.
      • Installs, maintains, repairs, and replaces street name signs, regulatory signs, warning signs, and guide signs.
      • Handles airless paint sprayers and drives light and heavy vehicles and equipment.
      • Performs a variety of street painting and striping work, including the painting of crosswalks, curbs, street markings, and installation of raised pavement markers.
      • Prepares layouts of intersections, crosswalks, and cat-track lane-lines for striping.
      • Complies with and enforces operating and safety procedures.
      • Performs other duties as assigned.

      EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
      • At least three months of related work experience.
      • Experience operating light equipment and basic machine shop equipment is desirable.
      • Experience working in a team environment as a crew member is also desirable.
      SELECTION PROCESS
      The selection process will consist of an evaluation of training and experience and the candidates deemed most highly qualified will be invited to participate in a written examination and department level interview.

      VACANCY INFORMATION
      There are currently two vacancies (Forestry and Graffiti Abatement) in the Street Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department. The resulting eligibility list from this recruitment may be used to fill these vacancies and similar vacancies in the future. Candidates selected for these positions are subject to a one-year probationary work period.Must have or obtain a valid Class C California Driver License, as it is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. Incumbents may be rotated and reassigned to different work activities and work schedules on an as-needed basis.
