      Performs labor intensive pressure washing work and various maintenance and beautification functions. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City.

      The starting salary range for this position is $15.54 - $17.87 depending on qualifications

      This position is Essential and is required to report to duty before, during, and immediately after a civil emergency.

      • Keeps the mission, vision and values of the City of Port St. Lucie at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintains high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
      • Operates pressure washer machinery to clean surfaces on City property (e.g., medians, sidewalks, curbs, bridges, fences, fountains, etc.)
      • Removes and covers graffiti.
      • Cleans and maintains signs citywide.
      • May need to apply detergent safely to machinery.
      • Operates small machinery and hand tools.
      • Performs preventative maintenance on several pieces of equipment.
      • Hauls a variety of material to/from the job site to facilitate completion of assigned projects.
      • Follows safety procedures to protect self and others from harm.
      • Writes and/or updates daily written reports.
      • May be required to inspect and report on service requests and be able to determine proper course of action.
      • May be required to work hours other than the standard day shift should an emergency arise.
      • Regular and punctual attendance.
      • Other duties as may be assigned.

      EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
      Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required. One (1) year related manual labor experience preferred. One (1) year of previous experience using pressure washing equipment preferred. Possession of valid Florida Driver's License and maintenance of clean driving record required.

      KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
      • Knowledge of tools and equipment required to perform duties.
      • Knowledge of grounds keeping practices and principles.
      • Skill in the operation and preventive maintenance of equipment and related tools.
      • Ability to drive City vehicle to and from job sites.
      • Ability to operate equipment required to perform duties.
      • Ability to perform heavy manual labor under various weather conditions.
      • Ability to work independently and as part of a team environment.
      • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
      • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
      • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
      • Ability to maintain daily logs of assigned equipment.
      • Ability to follow Public Works Department standard operating procedures to include safety compliance.
      • Ability to operate an assigned City phone.
      • Ability to focus on the positive in every situation.
      • Ability to model respect for individuals, teams, and the organization.
      • Ability to stay centered when challenged.
      • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
      • Ability to follow through with assigned tasks.

      While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch, and drive. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
