      The MPRB is accepting applications for an outgoing and dedicated Athletic Program Manager to direct and manage the Athletic Programs for the MPRB with job duties generally split between youth and adult sports. Perform high level leadership, management and administrative work for the delivery of city-wide athletic programs through collaborative community partnerships ensuring high standards in program and service delivery are set while meeting the needs and interests of diverse communities. Perform oversight of athletic field scheduling, administration of athletic leagues, referee training and scheduling, recreation division volunteers, warming rooms, and other duties as assigned within citywide Recreation offerings.

      • Responsible for the overall day to day management of city-wide Athletic Programs for youth and adult sports.
      • Plan, coordinate and direct diversified year-round, citywide athletic programs and leagues to ensure that the mission, goals, policies and priorities of the MPRB are incorporated into the programs, athletic fields and facilities.
      • Develop, implement and evaluate internal and external organization wide athletic facility permits including use of premier ball fields.
      • Coordinate, schedule and permit organization wide athletic facilities for multiple area high schools, colleges, athletic organizations, leagues, special events, tournaments and ongoing use in a timely manner and without overlap or double-booking.
      • Collaboratively lead and direct the development, update and implementation of a comprehensive plan to assess athletic sport programs and events to ensure that services and facilities meet the current and future needs and demographics of Minneapolis and its neighborhoods.
      • Hire, train, supervise, evaluate, develop and discipline full-time and part-time recreation staff, and interns working in the field at MPRB athletic facilities, warming rooms, and within adult, youth and adaptive sports leagues and programs.
      • Actively manage contracted personnel, ensure certification of youth sports coaches, oversee officials including recruitment, training, evaluating and disciplinary program.
      • Assist MPRB in identifying and addressing the park and recreation needs of underserved and under-represented communities.
      Need to Have:
      • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Parks and Recreation, Sports Administration, Public Administration, Business or related field.
      • Increasingly responsible experience in leadership, management and administration: at least four (4) years
      • Increasingly responsible experience in varied and diverse athletic program service delivery: at least five (5) years
      • Experience supervising employees: at least four (4) years
      • Valid driver’s license.
      Nice to Have:
      • Experience supervising unionized employees: at least two (2) years

      Skills Crucial to Success in This Role:
      • Knowledge of modern principles and best practices of athletic programing and facility management.
      • Knowledge of planning, organizing, coordinating and implementing comprehensive community athletic programs including but not limited to youth development, children, teen, adult and family programming; events; and therapeutic recreation.
      • Knowledge of youth and adult sports league development and practices.
      • Ability to identify and evaluate plan alternatives in relation to trends, costs, social pressures and needs.
      • Ability to thoroughly evaluate program alternatives and make recommendations for improvements in MPRB programs, services, and facilities.
      • Outstanding customer service principles and practices and standards for a diverse customer base.

      Selection Process:

      • We conduct a structured panel interview (oral exam) (70%).
      • We calculate your civil service score based on the above components and place you on the eligible list if all testing components are passed (passing score for each component and as an overall score is 70.00 or above). Eligible list will expire in three (3) months.
      • We refer the top finalists to the hiring manager for an interview.
      • Past performance and discipline may be considered.
      • We conduct a background check. Upon receiving a conditional offer of employment, the applicant will be asked to sign an informed consent allowing the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board to obtain their criminal history in connection with the positions sought.
