      Job Summary

      The Core Facilities Manager will work in-house with cryoEM technicians and IT specialists to maintain Talos Arctica, Glacios, Krios(s), and Aquilos II systems and will require interfacing with field service engineers to ensure optimal performance of the microscopes. Other responsibilities will include to maintain ancillary cryo-EM related equipment such as Vitrobot, glow discharger etc.; load samples and align microscopes prior to data collection; train and oversee users for data collection; evaluate quality of data obtained by users, interface and collaborate with High Performance Computing team and UTSW IT personnel who will assist with computational needs for optimal data collection, storage, and data processing; interface and collaborate with Structural Biology Lab (SBL) ; implement data collection strategies; maintain accurate logs for microscope performance and usage; manage the usage schedule via ilab.

      Experience and Education

      • Bachelor’s degree in science required, emphasis in the biological sciences preferred; at least six (6) years of experience in core facilities or equivalent.
      • Master’s degree preferred.
      • May consider additional education in lieu of experience.

      Job Duties

      Works with the Institute Director, Core Directors and Administrative Director to develop strategic plans to meet core facility goals of multiple revenue-producing core facilities. Develops, recommends and implements work plans for each core’s operations to improve efficiency, service, revenues and compliance. Assists and coaches core staff and technicians in work processes and maximizes resource efficiency. Design and implement process improvement techniques to increase workflow and processes. Develop metrics and surveys to improve customer satisfaction, define and project staffing needs, meet strategic goals, and meet revenue goals. Develop targets for short-range and long-range goals. Manages budgets and reviews operations and financial reports to improve processes and workflows. Manages billing for all cores and oversee billing issues. Plan for and manage cash flow in cores. Develops targets for short-range and long-range goals. Assists in acquisition of equipment and space needs. Advises in staffing needs, engage with staff to improve process flows and train and coach staff. • Coordinates and direct administrative and technical functions within the cores. Coordinates projects and procedures. Responsible for the design, execution and effectiveness of a system of internal controls which assure that operations are effective and efficient, financial information is reliable, and equipment and assets are maintained and efficiently used. Performs other duties as assigned.
