      Job Description Summary

      The position oversees the Student-Athlete Development program for the Department of Athletics to support our 500-plus student-athletes successfully navigating and maximizing their intercollegiate experience while aiding in their post-graduation transition process. Promoting student-athletes ownership of their academic, athletic, career, personal, and community responsibilities through dynamic programming and initiative.

      The Manager for Student-Athlete Development is dedicated to providing programming and support for student-athletes in the development of their academic, personal, and career goals. This position will devise an integrated plan to include the athletic department, campus, and community resources to provide a comprehensive program that fosters the holistic development of each student-athlete. The Manager for Student-Athlete Development will lead student-athlete development staff and work collaboratively with members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council, campus, and the greater Bentley community to ensure the content of development programming ensures desirable outcomes and goals. This position will focus on high-impact practices that positively influence the retention, eligibility, and personal development of student-athletes from matriculation to graduation. This position will play a key role in cultivating relationships within the greater Waltham community for service learning engagement opportunities, and youth sports connections to campus.

      Essential Duties

      Student Development

      • Lead and oversee the operations, planning, and execution of a comprehensive student-athlete development program for student-athletes
      • In collaboration with New Student Programs ensure the successful onboarding of all new student athletes to the university (first year and transfer)
      • Serve as the department liaison to career services. Create initiatives for our student-athletes to promote career development and support student athletes exploration of career goals.
      • Developing leadership and life skill programming and serve as a Bentley Plus advisor.
      • Assist with programming for the Student-Athlete Development Curriculum in Career, Leadership, and Service
      • Work with the alumni office to coordinate events for student-athletes with athletic alumni to further their professional growth.
      • Collaborate with athletic department personnel and head coaches to develop and implement strategies, policies, and protocols that promote the academic success and welfare of student-athletes.
      • Recognize, analyze, and solve problems across projects and in complex situations.
      • Lead special projects aimed to enhance the student-athlete experience.

      Student Welfare

      • Serves as the department liaison to the counseling center, disability services, and other department offices that directly support the welfare of our student-athletes.
      • Serve as the departmental liaison to the VPSA office on First Gen initiatives and work to ensure policies and procedures in the athletics department meet the needs of first gen student athletes.
      • Serve on the CARE Team on all cases involving student-athletes.
      • Partner with the university nutritionist to educate and support student-athletes on healthy eating and ways to fuel their body.
      • Ensure all educational programs (mandatory and otherwise) meet the developmental needs of student athletes and ensure compliance with federal, state, NCAA and university laws and policies. This includes collaborating with the Office of Institutional Equity to plan and implement mandatory Title IX and Gender-Based Misconduct training; coordination with Student Programs and Engagement for hazing education for all student-athletes and staff members.

      Community Engagement

      • Promote the Athletic Department's commitment to community service by working with all teams on their initiatives to give back.
      • Work with the internal Bentley community to involve our athletes in on-campus initiatives and events.
      • Coordinate youth sports team's involvement at home athletics events.

      Additional Duties

      • Review and process student-athlete name, image and likeness opportunities for NCAA compliance and facilitate education related to personal branding, entrepreneurship, and personal finance.
      • Work with our Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance to support our student-athletes on the academic level where needed.
      • Directly supervise the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Athletic Representative for the Athletic Department.
      • Support department-wide inclusion initiatives for student-athletes.
      • Adhere to NCAA, NE10, Atlantic Hockey and University compliance rules.

      Minimum Qualifications

      • Bachelor’s Degree
      • 2-4 years of related experience
      • Knowledge of the athletics environment in a higher education setting
      • Excellent oral and written communication skills
      • Must hold and maintain a valid, unrestricted United States driver’s license, with an insurable driving history as determined by Bentley’s insurance carrier.

      Preferred Qualifications

      • Master’s degree
      • 1 year of experience in athletics

      Work Environment

      • Typical office setting with extensive sitting and computer work.
      • Ability to travel around campus for meetings and work-related events
      • Nights and Weekends expectations
      • Some travel is expected for this role
