What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Lead the Habeas Corpus & Sentencing Unit and supervise a team of attorneys
- Represent the State of Washington in federal and state habeas corpus cases
- Advise the Washington Department of Corrections on various legal issues, including sentencing matters
- Prepare written pleadings in response to legal challenges from offenders
- Collaborate with stakeholders in criminal cases to address erroneous judgments and sentences
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school or completion of the WSBA's Rule 6 Law Clerk Program
- Licensed to practice law in Washington State or actively pursuing admission
- Commitment to public service as demonstrated through background and experience
- Significant litigation experience preferred
- Interest and aptitude for supervising, coaching, and mentoring others
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience supervising, coaching, or mentoring legal professionals
- Strong background in litigation, particularly in criminal law or habeas corpus matters
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
