      What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
      - Assist in planning, coordinating, and implementing visual surveys to detect endangered North Atlantic right whales
      - Conduct fieldwork, collect, enter, and audit data, and perform data analysis under supervision
      - Act as lead worker in the field with contracted and seasonal staff
      - Review scientific project plans, methods, analyses, results, and recommendations
      - Foster collaboration across programmatic lines within the Division of Marine Resources

      What is Required (Qualifications):
      - Intermediate education, training, and/or experience in compiling and summarizing scientific field and laboratory data
      - Coursework or demonstrated experience in natural resource science, management, technology, laboratory, or field work
      - Ability to conduct research activities in various weather conditions
      - Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team
      - Familiarity with MS Office products, R, SQL, and GIS (R & ArcGIS Pro)

      How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
      - Experience with Mysticetus LLC software, distance sampling, or distance software
      - Sea time spent aboard marine mammal research vessels conducting line-transect surveys
      - Flight hours in marine mammal research aircraft
      - Experience with photo-identification of North Atlantic right whales and general marine species identification in the Northwest Atlantic
      - Knowledge of the coast of Maine and its relevant fisheries
