      • Position Summary
        • The Medical Assistant Apprentice will function in a training capacity, working alongside a mentor while completing their job responsibilities. The Apprentice will assist providers and the care team in the care of patients, promoting a smooth flow of patients through the office and help to create a calm, supportive atmosphere. The Apprentice will only perform set skills that they have completed in their skills lab with a passing grade and are qualified to perform alongside a mentor. These skills will include clinical and clerical duties as necessary to care for patients. They will be required to pay attention to detail and accuracy and conduct all interactions with patients and personnel in a courteous and respectful manner while maintaining confidentiality. The Apprentice is required to conduct all responsibilities consistent with policies, procedures, and in compliance with all applicable laws or mandates relating to patient care and activities.
      • Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
        • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. Must be accepted and enrolled into the Southern Maine Community College Medical Assisting Apprenticeship Program. Throughout the Apprenticeship, all courses including Skills Labs must be passes with a grade of C or better in order to remain in the Apprenticeship.
        • License/Certifications: Current BLS certification required prior to clinical training.
        • Experience: N/A
        • Must maintain confidentiality at all times.
        • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary for interacting with patients, physicians, supervisors and other staff with the ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others.
        • Ability to organize and accomplish multiple tasks and to have the flexibility to meet changing demands on a daily basis.
        • Ability to project a pleasant and professional image even under stressful situations.
        • Proficient computer skills.
