Job Description

- Remain in good standing with apprentice training program and complete WACH coursework and required training modules and will be periodically evaluated using patient care competencies provided through the WACH MA Apprentice training program.
- Prepare and maintain exam rooms, laboratory area and lavatory with supplies before the start of the day, at the end of the day and as needed throughout the day.
- Room and prepare patients for exams including chief complaint and vital signs and request reports needed for patient care.
- Provide assistance with patient exams, and medical procedures.
- Perform laboratory procedures including, but not limited to, anterior nasal swabbing, nasopharngeal swabbing hemoglobin, rapid strip, urine chemstrips, blood glucose and pregnancy tests.
- Respond to calls from patients
- Order medication and medical supplies for the clinic.
- Ensure lab specimens are properly labeled, recorded, and sent to appropriate outside laboratory.
- Complete laboratory control sheets according to HealthPoint procedures.
- Fill out lab, and referral forms according to HealthPoint procedures.
- Provide instructions to patients on the use of medications as directed by the Provider.
- Record medication refills in patient charts. Follow up with patient on prescription refills. Process all pharmacy requests.
- Send out test result letters to patients and follow up with providers.
- Sanitize used equipment with appropriate sterilizing techniques.
- Provide liaison between receptionists and providers ensuring timely and orderly patient flow throughout the clinic.
- Follow established procedures for opening and closing the clinic each day.
- Maintain good attendance, is punctual and works full scheduled shift is a condition of employment.
- Demonstrates respectful, professional, and appropriate behavior that supports a team-oriented work environment.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the mission, core values and goals of HealthPoint and its healthcare delivery including the ability to integrate values of justice, respect, compassion, excellence and stewardship into appropriate programs and services.
- Participate in HealthPoint collaborative to improve patient care.
- Attend staff meeting and in-service meeting. Participate in agency committees and task force activities.
- High School diploma, GED or equivalent. Enrollment in the WACHC Registered Medical Assistant Training Program Required.
- CPR/BLS certification that must be obtained within 3 months of the apprenticeship start date. Practicing as a medical assistant includes many duties identified in RCW 18.360.050.

Position Summary:
HealthPoint is opening our Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program!
Healthpoint is offering a paid, on-the-job training program for those interested in pursuing a certification in Medical Assisting. This apprentice training program provides its learners a structured learning environment that provides the tools and skills to become confident and successful members of a healthcare team. The program begins on July 17, 2023. Applications must be submitted no later than June 16, 2023. As part of the application process, you’re required to attach a personal statement (350 words) on why you are applying for the Apprenticeship Program. Compensation is dependent on skills and experience.
Below is a summary of the training program objectives and duties performed in this program:
Medical Assistance Apprentice will perform back-office functions including patient preparation, support of health care providers, laboratory procedures and clinic operations in a manner that promotes quality patient care. Act as liaison between front office and provider for ensuring timely and orderly patient flow. This role will be an enrollee of the WACHC MA Apprenticeship Program. The performance of delegated clinical duties will be directed, supervised, and inspected by the appropriately credentialed staff. This program requires 2,000 hours of paid on-the-job-training and 410 hours of supplemental, unpaid course work. There will be three in-person laboratory days.
This program requires a two-year service commitment with HealthPoint, which begins upon the completion of the Apprenticeship Program.

Proof of vaccination for COVID-19 is required, prior to start. All new employees are also required to show proof of immunizations and/or immunity to MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Varicella, annual Influenza and TB QuantiFERON Gold Titer. Additionally, if you work in a HealthPoint clinic, Tdap (within last 10 years) is required. Hepatitis B. is required for clinical employees with potential exposure to blood/blood products. All immunizations are a condition of employment. Upon hire, employees must provide proof of their immunizations and/or immune titer results prior to starting or no later than their fifth (5) business day of employment.
