      Job Title: Medical Assistant


      Job Description

      We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for supporting the healthcare team in ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of patient care.

      Responsibilities

      • Assist with the rooming and intake process, collecting and recording vital signs, height, weight, and data related to the patient's reason for visit.
      • Collect patient and family data, including medical and social history.
      • Review the patient's current medication list, allergies, and preferred pharmacy.
      • Collect specimens and perform phlebotomy.
      • Review the patient record to determine whether the patient requires any routine health screenings.
      • Ensure the exam/procedure room contains appropriate supplies, equipment, forms, and educational materials ready for use.
      • Provide patients with after-visit, follow-up, self-care, or procedural instructions and/or educational materials as directed.
      • Prepare, clean, stock, and maintain exam and treatment rooms.
      • Clean and sterilize instruments.
      • Assist with patient registration, check-in/check-out, appointment scheduling, and scheduling of tests and treatments, and referrals.
      • Answer clinic telephone and assist in-basket under the direction of a provider or nurse.
      • Assist in emergency situations as directed by a provider or nurse.
      • Precept new medical assistant/credentialed medical assistant hires and medical assistant externs.
      • Train other medical assistants in clinic procedures.
      • Assist the physician with maintaining preventive health measures for a panel of patients.
      • Perform clinic-based quality or safety roles, such as clinic safety coordinator, maintaining immunization or medication registry, and performing medication or other required audits.
      • Manage clinic supply ordering.

      Essential Skills

      • Proficiency in using Epic and other healthcare-related software.
      • Certification as a Medical Assistant by AAMA, AMT, CCMA, NRCMA, or NCMA.
      • Basic Life Support Certification from AHA or ARC.
      • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
      • Ability to use a computer to document required information into the electronic medical record.
      • At least one year of full-time experience as a Medical Assistant.

      Additional Skills & Qualifications

      • Completion of a Medical Assisting program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES is preferred.
      • Ability to engage positively with patients and families and to work as a team with staff and providers.

      Work Environment

      This position is based at North Carolina Heart and Vascular, with working hours from 8am to 4:30pm. You will be part of a large health system, providing an excellent opportunity for growth and development in a supportive environment.

      Pay and Benefits

      The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $22.00/hr.
