What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Review, analyze, and assign ICD diagnosis codes, CPT codes, and other charges based on clinical documentation
- Ensure accurate coding for medical diagnostic, lab, pathology, and ancillary services
- Apply medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, surgical technology, and pharmacology in coding tasks
- May assist in reviewing documentation for Hierarchical Condition Categories (HCC)
- Maintain compliance with coding standards and regulations
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Successful completion of required coding courses within one year of hire
- Minimum experience in the medical field, medical records, or coding systems (CPT and HCPCS)
- Coding certification from recognized organizations (CPC, CCS, CCS-P, or CRC) within three years of hire
- Educational qualifications must be from an accredited institution recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation
- Ability to comply with federal program participation requirements
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Associate degree in Medical Billing and Coding, Health Information Management, or a related field
- Experience in physician/professional coding
- Coding certification at the time of hire from recognized organizations (CPC, CCS, CCS-P, or CRC)
