What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Analyze medical records and assign appropriate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes based on documentation
- Collaborate with Patient Financial Services to resolve coding questions and assist with appeal letters
- Review and resolve account checks, denial issues, and coding edits daily to ensure clean claim submissions
- Maintain coding compliance and accuracy by staying updated on guidelines and industry standards
- Assist in training new coders on internal policies and coding practices
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Minimum of two years of progressive on-the-job coding experience in an acute care hospital or physician's office
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of payer guidelines, HIPAA compliance, and coding standards
- Ability to assign codes to complex diagnoses and procedures accurately
- Proficient in using coding software and electronic medical records systems
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Completion of a coding cross-training program
- Registered Health Information Administrator, Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, Certified Coding Specialist, or Certified Outpatient Coder certification
- Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Experience working collaboratively with various departments in a healthcare setting
