What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Review, analyze, and interpret provider documentation for accurate procedure and diagnosis code selection
- Perform audits of provider coding and documentation, providing recommendations for improvements
- Maintain close working relationships with providers, addressing coding discrepancies as they arise
- Research coding inquiries from providers or medical staff and present findings
- Conduct provider coding orientation and education sessions, documenting all information presented
What is Required (Qualifications):
- High School graduate or equivalent
- Minimum of two years of experience coding professional services across multiple specialties
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or equivalent coding certification required
- Extensive knowledge of official coding guidelines established by the American Medical Association (AMA) and the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
- Thorough understanding of professional coding in both clinic and hospital settings
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience working with Epic ambulatory and hospital modules
- Familiarity with coding processes and research on denials in a billing context
- Ability to conduct educational sessions effectively and document presentations
