      A Brief Overview
      Assists the Specimen Processing Supervisor with oversight of daily operations in the Stormont Vail Health Topeka Campus Hospital Laboratory. Acts as a support person for Medical Laboratory Assistants to aid in specimen management during normal and atypical situations, whether clinical or anatomical pathology specimen, reference laboratory specimen, client, clinic, or inpatient specimen. Successfully monitors and completes training of staff to current policy.

      Education Qualifications

      • High School Diploma / GED Required


      Experience Qualifications

      • 1 year Phlebotomy or laboratory experience. Preferred


      Skills and Abilities

      • Follows all OSHA guidelines and hospital and laboratory safety procedures. (Required proficiency)
      • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work, particularly during busy times. (Required proficiency)
      • Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions. (Required proficiency)
      • Knowledge of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures. (Required proficiency)
      • Ability to follow directions accurately. (Required proficiency)
      • Strong attention to detail. (Required proficiency)


      What you will do

      • Responsible for performing the job duties of a Medical Laboratory Assistant.
      • Assists the Supervisor with adjustments to the section work schedule, including any daily and/or individual work assignments to utilize personnel.
      • Ensures effective training and orientation of new team members. Provides effective support, coaching and mentorship to new team members.
      • Assists the Supervisor in assessing competency during the introductory period and annual performance evaluations of Medical Laboratory Assistants.
      • Provides support to the Supervisor in investigating and correcting deviations in procedures and professional behavior standards.
      • Ensures compliance with safety procedures.
      • Assists with time-keeping responsibilities.
      • Reviews and updates procedures as assigned.
      • Assists department leadership with maintaining accreditation readiness.
