What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Code outpatient/professional encounters using ICD-10-CM, CPT (with modifiers), HCPCS, and E/M
- Validate assigned encounters to ensure documentation supports the codes billed
- Use VIRR and the E/M calculator as mandated
- Query providers for documentation/coding clarification using approved methods
- Participate in QA processes, training support, and resolution of audit findings/denials
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Active certification: RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CCS-P, and/or CPC (maintained throughout contract)
- Minimum of 3 years continuous coding experience in a comparable/larger facility
- Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and E/M
- U.S. citizen, proficient in written and spoken English
- Familiarity with VA tools/systems preferred (VistA/CPRS, VIRR)
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience with VA tools/systems such as VistA/CPRS and VIRR
- Previous work in a larger healthcare facility or with outpatient coding
