  Job Description

  Under the direction of the Chief of Perfusion shall assist the perfusionist with set-up and maintenance of any and all cardiac surgery related equipment. Shall assist the anesthesiologist with pre-induction, induction and throughout the cardiac procedure.

  Job Responsibility

  * PERFUSION
  •Collects and completes the Perfusion pre-op data form.Enters data in the computer for each patient.•Prepares all equipment for use. All start-up and test procedures performed.• All disposables checked for damage.• Set-up and assist in the operation of the auto transfusion device according to hospital policy and procedure.• Maintains par levels for the perfusion supply room and the supply carts.All supplies reordered and stocked as needed.•Performs maintenance procedures on the Temperature Control Modules, the heart lung machines, and the auto transfusion devices.Reports all equipment problems to the Chief of Perfusion and BME.• Monitors the availability of the Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps.Completes the daily checklist and records their location and availability of all pumps.• Thoroughly clean all perfusion equipment according to policy and procedure.At the completion of each procedure removes and discards disposables from the pump according to policy and procedure. • When on call, carries a pager and responds to all pages promptly. When required to come to the hospital arrives within the appropriate time frame set by departmental policy for both emergency and routine calls.
  
  *ANESTHESIA• Set-up, calibration, troubleshooting problems, and basic maintenance of monitoring devices including transducers, monitors, and associated cables.• Assist in placement of hemodynamic monitoring, i.e arterial line and Swanz-Ganz catheter.
  • Become familiar with the contents of the anesthesia carts, airway carts
  and anesthesia supply room.Assist in keeping the carts stocked. •Maintains par levels of perfusion/ anesthesia supplies, carts, and medication trays. •Assist during induction and intubation, and when needed throughout the cardiac procedure.• Assisting in transport of monitored patients to and from O.R.• Performs related duties as required.*ADA Essential Functions.
  
  Physical Demands:•Standing, walking, bending, pushing, pulling turning, lifting, carrying and sitting
  • Must be able to push heavy equipment and move supplies as needed
  
  

  Job Qualification

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required. College coursework, preferred.
  • Previous cardiac surgery experience and ordering required. OR Previous autotransfusion experience, required
