Job summary
The NHSP Site Lead will support the Local Programme Manager in managing the West Surrey Newborn Hearing Screening Programme across multiple hospital sites and outpatient clinics. The role includes day-to-day operational management of the local team of newborn hearing screeners, ensuring adherence to national quality standards and local protocols. Responsibilities include direct involvement in newborn hearing screening, line management of staff, and training and supervision of new recruits.
The post holder will contribute to the strategic development of the service, ensuring effective service delivery through high-quality clinical practices, data management, and multi-disciplinary collaboration, all while maintaining a compassionate, inclusive, collaborative, and inspiring approach to care.
Main duties of the job
1. To demonstrate a high level of competence in screening practice according to national and local protocols.
2. Prioritise and screen babies in inpatient and outpatient settings, including postnatal wards and neonatal intensive care units.
3. Accurately document screening results in patient records and the national database.
4. Communicate screening results and processes to parents sensitively, addressing concerns and questions.
5. To carry out quality assurance checks of the equipment used and accurately record always ensuring the safety and security of equipment. Identify and report any problems to the Local Programme Manager at the earliest opportunity. Ensure faulty equipment is removed from use immediately
6. To refer babies for audiological assessment in line with national protocols
