- English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
- Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The approving official may authorize a waiver of the requirement for ACEN or CCNE accreditation of any degree in nursing provided the college or university has regional accreditation from an accrediting body recognized by the Department of Education at the time of the candidate's graduation and the composite qualifications of the applicant warrant such consideration. In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
- Current BLS provider card issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network (MTN).
- Possess diverse working knowledge of imaging, breast cancer risk, patient navigation, and an understanding of breast imaging technology.
- Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
- Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience.
- Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience.
- Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
- Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience.
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Breast Care Navigator: This position requires a diverse working knowledge of imaging, breast cancer risk, patient navigation, and an understanding of breast imaging technology. The position will act in a supportive role with on-site facility care coordinators for Veterans receiving indicated follow up care for additional screening or diagnostic workup.
Is clinically and administratively responsible to the National Teleradiology Program - Director of Mammography
Demonstrates clinical competencies in such areas as age-specific are, cultural assessment, and health education
Demonstrates respect for cultural and spiritual values
Demonstrates an ability to effectively function autonomously, as well as a member of an interdisciplinary team
Demonstrates understanding of facility and national performance metrics that can be influenced by the programs in the work area
Demonstrates leadership and active participation in facility and national level quality improvement processes and initiatives
Uses metrics to show improvement and sustainment
Actively participates in customer service improvement processes and initiatives
Demonstrates leadership in meeting, reporting, and training others on assigned program(s) objectives and metrics for the program and facility
Demonstrates self-direction for assigned program(s) as the lead RN to operate assigned program according to VHA and facility directives, and trains others within the program to ensure succession planning
Demonstrates efficient, effective and electronic processes are in place for programmatic management
Demonstrates effective use of facility processes for Standard Operating Procedures, Center
Memorandums, Protocols, Guidelines, Patient Education, etc. with minimal supervisor direction
Demonstrates knowledge of and effective use of national guidelines, templates, education, etc. with minimal supervisor direction
Consistently demonstrates and facilitates effective communication skills and professional behaviors that promote cooperation and teamwork with internal and external customers, team members, and supervisors throughout facility
Follow and include the appropriate nursing chain of command structure
Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills consistently
Attends staff meetings and program specific education
Demonstrates active leadership and participation in customer service improvement processes and initiatives in the work area
Demonstrates and facilitates the facility staffing model and the need to adjust staffing according to the needs of Veteran; this includes floating to assist other programs and clinic areas when staffing is needed
Leads change based on findings through current policies and procedures
Leads in writing policies and procedures with approval from Supervisor
Utilizes VHA and community resources as appropriate
Educates the patient and the caregiver as needed
Initiates and demonstrates being unit/program representative at interdisciplinary meeting as assigned by Supervisor
Actively participates and required member of the Mammography Advisory Committee
Receive initial VA consult referrals for mammography, non-VA maternity care, and/or other gender-specific care, arranging VA versus community services for the patient with an appropriate provider, to include coordinating any subsequent additional authorizations or
follow-up, as needed
Works to facilitate patient satisfaction, to reduce duplication of services or delay of care and to monitor quality of care and services received. The Breast Care Navigator is directly responsible to the Executive Directors National Radiology and Teleradiology and Medical Director Breast Imaging

Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-6 Nurse Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.
Physical Requirements: This position requires heavy lifting, 45 pounds heavy carrying, 45 pounds straight pulling (2 hours); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking & standing 8 hours - intermittently; repeated bending; both legs required; ability for rapid mental& muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; depth perception; ability to distinguish shades of colors; hearing (aide permitted). Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs.About the company
