MAIN FUNCTION:
The Nursing Professional Development Specialist (NPDS) designs, organizes, implements and evaluates educational programs (orientations, continuing education, and in-services) that facilitate the professional growth, skill development, competency, and attainment of standards of care for direct care nurses within the organization and across all systems of the organization. The NPDS provides staff development expertise as nurse leader, mentor, and agent of change, consultant/facilitator, and educator/professional development specialist. Each supports the professional development of the bedside caregiver, and fosters empowerment through knowledge to achieve excellence through the delivery of evidence based nursing practice. This occurs by the facilitation of the educational process through assessment, development, planning, implementation and evaluation of competency assessment, continuing education and leadership development. In addition, as a role model of professional behavior, the NPDS is instrumental in creating and maintaining a professional nursing climate within the organization to meet the diverse needs of the patient care areas. The NPDS collaborates with nursing leadership to identify and meet global needs of patient care units, multi-disciplinary teams, committees, and task forces.
EDUCATION: Master’s Degree in Nursing; APRN, CNS, PhD or DNP degrees or candidates encouraged (if actively matriculated in a Nursing Master’s Degree program, and within 6 months of completion)
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
Certification: Specialty or education certification preferred.
Experience: 3-5 years clinical experience in an acute care setting required.
Licensure: Current Connecticut licensure in clinical field
Basic Life Support (BLS) from AHA
