      General Summary:
      The Orthopaedic Cast Technician works under the direction of the manager, physicians and nursing professionals in the application and removal of specific orthopaedic casts, soft goods and braces. The Orthopaedic Cast Technician performs a wide variety of services as a member of the patient care team in the treatment and care of patients including advanced, technical patient care procedures and general patient procedures. The Orthopaedic Cast Technician assists with tasks which support the department in order to maintain a safe, clean and orderly work environment.

      Main Responsibilities:
      • Provides quality orthopaedic care in the cast room for patients requiring immobilization including: applying, removing and assessing needs for change of all types of orthopaedic casts and immobilization devices; collaborating with orthopaedic surgeons/staff in reviewing patient x-rays and in developing procedures for setting up aseptic field, etc
      • Collaborates with Orthopaedic Surgeons and other staff in Orthopaedics to provide the highest level of orthopaedic care possible
      • Educates patients/families regarding application/wearing of orthotic devices
      • Serves as a resource for staff and patients with problems related to cast/braces/splints
      • Maintains patient care environment including: maintaining and organizing supplies/medications for easy access, assists in the cleaning and sterilization of instruments
      • Ability to identify, evaluate and treat any potential skin complications

      Education/Experience/Knowledge:
      • High School or GED required
      • 2+ years’ experience
      • ROT, Registered Orthopedic Technologist certification desired
      • Knowledge of departmental policies, procedures and protocols relating to casting. Has knowledge of patient care environmental procedures
      • Must possess excellent communication skills
      • Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with others
