      Occupational Therapy Doctoral (OTD) Program - Faculty - Academic Fieldwork Coordinator Description


      South College Atlanta is seeking an Academic Fieldwork Coordinator for the Occupational Therapy Doctoral Program. This position has the potential to work in a Hybrid formal - remote but with intensive lab attendance at our Atlanta, GA campus.


      The Academic Fieldwork Coordinator (AFWC) holds a faculty appointment and has administrative, academic, service, and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the South College Entry-Level Doctor of Occupational Therapy Program. This individual demonstrates competence in fieldwork education, teaching, and curriculum development. In addition, the AFWC primary responsibilities are to plan, coordinate, facilitate, administer, and monitor activities on behalf of the academic program and in coordination with the OTD Program Director, academic faculty, and clinical faculty.


      Responsibilities

      • Developing, monitoring, and refining the occupational-centered fieldwork education components of the curriculum.
      • Facilitating quality learning experiences for students during fieldwork education.
      • Evaluating students' performance, in cooperation with other faculty, to determine their ability to integrate didactic and clinical learning experiences and to progress within the curriculum.
      • Educating students, Fieldwork Educators (FWEs) and academic faculty about fieldwork education and related policies and procedures.
      • Selecting clinical learning environments that demonstrate characteristics of sound patient/client management, ethical and professional behavior, safety, and current occupational therapy practice.
      • Maximizing available resources for the fieldwork education program.
      • Providing documented records and assessment of the fieldwork education component (includes fieldwork sites, FWEs, etc.) and;
      • Actively engaging core faculty in the planning, implementation, and assessment processes associated with fieldwork education.

      Administrative Responsibilities

      Communication Between University, the OTD Program and Program Director, and Fieldwork Education sites:

      • Communicates news and current information among all concerned stakeholders to maintain current knowledge of the educational program, the fieldwork education site, and health care changes affecting clinical practice and fieldwork education.
      • Provides ongoing communication with FWEs at each fieldwork education site to support the compliance with current ACOTE Standards (referenced below).
      • Communicates and oversees communication with FWEs, clinical faculty, and students to monitor progress and assess student performance. Provides guidance and support as required to problem solve and discuss pertinent issues with students and FWEs.
      • Ensures all program policies, procedures, and practices under the responsibility of the Director of Clinical Education/AFWC provide for compliance with accreditation policies and procedures; specifically, ACOTE C Standards for Fieldwork Experience.
      • Provides direct input into curriculum design, review, and revision processes.
