      Position Summary/Job Duties:

      The Outdoor Recreation Specialist activates the museum’s outdoor exhibit spaces to support visitor engagement and outdoor play-based learning opportunities. The Outdoor Recreation Specialist plans and implements informal games and activities and facilitates outdoor play experiences for the museum’s diverse audiences. The majority of work time is spent in direct interaction with museum visitors, outdoors, in all seasons.

      Essential Job Functions (90%)

      • Interacts with visitors in the museum’s Wonderground play space to facilitate a safe and positive museum experience for visitors.
      • Coordinates seasonal changes in equipment, props, and activities to maximize visitor engagement in the Wonderground throughout the year and variable weather conditions.
      • Maintains order and functionality in the Wonderground and its storage spaces.
      • Works with Facilities and Exhibits teams to record and prioritize Wonderground maintenance needs.
      • Assists with daily cleaning and seasonal maintenance of outdoor exhibit and program spaces.
      • Assists education managers with the development of drop-in activity ideas and content for the museum’s monthly calendar of public programs.
      • Supports guest program instructors and performers at Wonderground events
      • Assists outreach coordinators with offsite MCM Roadshow programs and events.
      • Ensures that visitor programs are child-based, accessible to a wide audience, and reflect the mission of Madison Children’s Museum.
      • Mentors program volunteers, visitor experience facilitators, and interns.
      • Interacts with all visitors in a friendly, professional manner, with exemplary customer service.
      • Maintains a current knowledge of museum operations and events, and the surrounding area.
