      Brief Position Overview:
      Under the supervision of the Communications Manager of the Office of Communications, Education, and Engagement (OCEE), the Communications Specialist will initiate and maintain targeted public relations and marketing campaigns that promote Harris County Public Health (HCPH). Its activities and the practice of public health among internal and external stakeholders. Will advance HCPH as a trustworthy source for local, state, and national public health information and guidance accessible to diverse audiences through multiple media. Apply best practice approaches to broaden other sectors' understanding of public health and its relevance to their respective interests.

      Duties & Responsibilities:
      • Develop innovative and engaging strategies and campaigns to support HCPH external communications initiatives.
      • Research, develop and edit written communications such as public information, web content, newsletters, reports, fact sheets, brochures, handouts, video scripts, PSAs to support HCPH communication initiatives.
      • Develop and implement public relations strategies that use innovative and engaging best practices to increase stakeholder awareness and support of HCPH and public health in general.
      • Produce and disseminate applicable public relations collateral products (flyers, newsletters, pamphlets, posters, articles, PSAs etc.) to affect a positive result in HCPH priority public health issues.
      • Analyze and evaluate HCPH program needs and provide innovative and engaging consultative guidance.
      • Other duties as assigned, including special tasks involved in responding to an emergency event.

      Education
      • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, public information, public affairs, public health, or social marketing
      Experience
      • At least two (2) years of professional work experience in public relations, communications, public information, public affairs, public health, social marketing, or project management
      Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
      • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
      • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written)
      • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment
      • Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information
      • Ability to work well with public and staff members
      • Must use your personal mobile device for our Multifactor Authentication process

        • Full-Time

        Salary:
        • Depends on Qualifications
        • Based on 26 Pay Periods
        Work Environment
        • This job operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
        Physical Demands
        • This is a largely stationary role, however does require field work and many duties would require the ability to lift up to 20 pounds and bending and standing for periods at a time.
