What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Conduct client intake, screening for program eligibility, and gathering evidence for case analysis
- Provide limited legal advice and counsel under the supervision of an attorney
- Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, and government agencies regarding client matters
- Support attorneys with discovery requests, trial preparation, and legal pleadings
- Maintain organized legal files and ensure timely case management database updates
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Paralegal certificate/degree from an ABA-approved institution or a bachelor's degree with 3 years of law-related experience under an active California bar attorney
- At least 3 years of experience working in a law firm, nonprofit, or in-house law office supporting multiple attorneys
- Thorough knowledge of legal terminology, court rules, and procedures
- Proficiency with legal databases (Lexis/Nexis and/or Westlaw) and case management systems
- Demonstrated commitment to providing free legal services to those in need
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- California Notary Certificate
- Experience in foreclosure, real estate, or consumer litigation
- Bilingual and biliterate in both English and Spanish
- Experience with state court e-filing systems
- Strong organizational, self-motivated, and goal-oriented skills
