      Under the supervision of the Transport Manager or designee, the Patient Care Transporter provides patient handling and equipment assistance to support and function as part of the hospital Patient Care Services team. Provides timely and efficient general transport of patients between nursing units, Emergency Department and the Department of Diagnostic Imaging as well as movement of equipment throughout the hospital upon request.


      Essential Functions:


      · Assists patients on and off beds and to the appropriate transportation device.


      · Will be lifting weights in excess of 50 lbs.


      · Assures patients are properly attired and covered for warmth, modesty, and comfort during transportation.


      · Verifies patient identification by checking identification band and compares patient identification with name on exam request.


      · Uses a variety of patient supporting and restraining equipment according to nursing or physician instructions.


      · Uses transportation devices (wheelchairs, gurneys) in accordance to established safety practices.



      • Utilizes patient handling equipment, transfer devices and protective equipment in compliance with hospital policies and vendor specifications.


      · Demonstrates effective communication with nursing staff, patients and families, eliciting information relative to needs, comfort and concerns. Communicates to care givers any noticeable changes in patient condition during transportation.


      · Must be able to lift, push, pull and transfer patients on a daily basis. Job requires frequent bending, stooping, lifting, stretching and standing for extended period of time.


      · Performs other related duties as assigned.


      · Attends mandatory in-service courses.


      · Orient and trains other employees.
