      JOB SUMMARY

      This position compiles and enters payroll data; computes and posts wages; and maintains payroll records. Assists in the correct and expeditious processing and distribution of salary to school system employees.

      DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

      This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

      ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

      • Maintains a professional and positive relationship with employees and others.
      • Processes payroll for monthly and semi-monthly employees accurately and in a timely manner.
      • Communicates any new policies or procedures for payroll issues to employees.
      • Processes additional changes for employees. (Tax forms, direct deposits, etc.)
      • Organizes and alphabetizes payroll forms and timesheets.
      • Reviews approvals in time management system.
      • Codes all leave and extended day duties into Payroll templates and processes additional pay.
      • Balances additional pay processed for payrolls.
      • Calculates and processes time losses.
      • Processes requests and timesheets for Personnel Service Agreements.
      • Processes salary Verification of Employment for mortgages.
      • Assists with other payrolls as needed.
      • Works extra hours to ensure that payrolls are completed by set deadlines.
      • Prepares files annually for Records Management.
      • Performs other duties as assigned.

      MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

      High School Diploma or State Approved High School Equivalency; Associate’s Degree in Business Education, Accounting, Mathematics, Office Management, or related field. Experience in payroll or accounting field preferably in a school system environment is desired. Or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training that provides the required knowledge and abilities.

      KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

      • Knowledge of payroll and accounting principles and procedures.
      • Knowledge of general office procedures and equipment.
      • Some knowledge of computerized accounting programs.
      • Skill in typing and/or operation of a computer keyboard.
      • Good mathematical skills.
      • Good organizational skills.
      • Ability to work under pressure and handle deadlines.
      • Ability to deal courteously and diplomatically with school employees, vendors, and the public.
      • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
      • Ability to maintain and keep records.
      • Ability to perform works requiring meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
      • Ability to enter and retrieve data from a computer.
      • Ability to understand, analyze and interpret information and instructions.
      • Ability to comprehend and apply payroll, tax, and benefits rules, regulations, and procedures.

      Salary/Terms/Benefits:

      1. 239 day work year; 8 hours per day
      2. Salary: Grade 47: Hourly (placement on salary schedule based on years or experience). Up to ten (10) years allowed. The stated salary range reflects the opportunity for pay over the course of the employee’s tenure. The top pay is not a potential starting salary
