      Payroll Assistant, Payroll

      Permanent Full Time

      The Payroll Assistant is a key member of the payroll team, by providing support to the Payroll Specialists to facilitate the processing of the bi-weekly payroll for 4,800 + employees. Duties include accurate data entry for unionized/non-unionized employees, including new hires, terminations, transfers, and other employee changes. Providing timely responses to payroll queries through clear communication via telephone and/or emails. You will support various reconciliations, year-end processes, leave processing, and timecard queries. Verify and produce cheque requisitions for payroll remittances and garnishments. Prepare and calculate manual cheques, verify hours from the timekeeping system, Kronos. Reconcile the payroll liability accounts and payroll arrears with Finance. Another important component of this role is to work collaboratively with other departments such as HR, Central Scheduling and Finance.

      What must you have?

      • Post-secondary education in business administration, accounting, payroll, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
      • Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certification required or equivalent combination of education and experience.

      What else do you bring?

      • Experience with payroll year-end process (T4/T4A) and annual pension reconciliation.
      • 3 years of payroll experience.
      • Knowledge of government legislation pertaining to payroll.
      • Experience with year-end processes and pension reconciliations.
      • Experience with in-house payroll and time management systems
      • Proven attendance record.
      • Strong organizational and customer service skills
      • Demonstrates understanding and complies with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all.
      • Ability to perform the essential duties of the job.
      • Effectively uses empathy in interactions with others and demonstrates behaviors consistent with Mackenzie Health’s Commitment to Caring.

      Preferably, your profile also includes:

      • Experience with annual HOOPP pension reconciliation.
      • Hospital payroll experience.
      • Experience with Infinium and Kronos.
