What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Review clinical documentation to ensure compliance with CMS guidelines and code services accurately in EPIC
- Assign correct CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes for various services and maintain billing activity controls
- Monitor compliance with federal and state coding laws and coordinate billing information for accuracy
- Serve as a resource for coding leadership and participate in meetings to share knowledge and improve processes
- Develop written procedures and train coding staff to enhance billing and coding operations
What is Required (Qualifications):
- High School diploma or GED
- Minimum of two years of experience in reviewing, abstracting, and coding medical records using ICD-10-CM and CPT coding
- Certification from AAPC or AHIMA, such as RHIA, RHIT, or CCS
- Active AHIMA membership or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification, or equivalent
- Ability to pass an internal coding test
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Completion of an accredited coding program, such as AAPC or AHIMA Coding Boot Camp
- Knowledge of OPPS guidelines and familiarity with medical necessity guidelines
- Experience using an EMR, specifically EPIC or 3M encoder
- Coursework in anatomy/physiology and medical terminology related to coding
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with various stakeholders
