- Provides therapeutic services such as collateral, rehabilitation, parenting skills training, and case management as appropriate to the individual needs of the parent, with a primary focus on recovery and rehabilitation needs.
- Utilizes evidenced based practices that are appropriate to meet the dynamic needs of the parent and family.
- Collaborates with all treatment team members.
- Acts as liaison with placement agencies and community services and works closely with mental health and child protective services, as well as law enforcement agencies, employers, health and welfare, and recreation agencies to provide coordinated care.
- Utilizes community resources in providing services for the parent, including coordinating community based 12 step groups, speaker panels, etc. and domestic violence support programs.
- Provide consultation to clinical staff and program supervisors regarding strategies for evaluating, managing, and treating underling issues that reinforce substance or alcohol use disorder and overcoming trauma.
- Provides lived experience, resources, and supports to help engage and provide prosocial behaviors for parents.
- Collaborate with Health Services staff to identify and implement best practices for assessing and addressing needs of youth with substance misuse behaviors (e.g., assessing for signs/symptoms of intoxication, withdrawal, or overdose, managing random drug screening procedures) as needed and appropriate.
- Collects qualitative and quantitative data to provide outcome measures.
- Support team in developing and delivering discharge recommendations and referrals to support youth transitions from services.
- Attends outside training events and conferences as requested.
- Provides transportation for parents to support groups, meetings, and other treatment needs.
- Engages in on-going training, skills building resource awareness to support treatment team needs, and has in-depth understating of trauma informed care.
- Maintains compliance with all local, County, State, and Federal government regulations to include Title 22, Division 6, and prepares reports required by regulatory agencies.
- Maintains confidentiality in all matters within the organization with respect to personnel, operations and clients.
- Provides flexible hours to support the needs of the parents and families.
- May perform other duties as assigned from time to time.
- Bachelor of Arts or Sciences Degree; degree in social work or related is preferred.
- Relevant life experience in the child welfare, mental health or juvenile justice system as a consumer, mentor, or caregiver or other relevant experience as determined by the department.
- Lived experience parenting in difficult situations, multiculturalism, and experience with recovery, or long long-term recovery, or an ally for people who have substance use disorders.
- Experience (personal or professional) working with those effected by domestic violence.
- A minimum two (2) years of full-time experience providing direct care experience in a mental health setting and/or support services to mental health clients and their families.
- Possesses a bachelor’s degree in a mental health related field (Social-Behavioral Sciences including psychology, social work, or sociology) AND A minimum of six (6) months of fulltime experience providing direct care experience in a mental health setting and/or support services to mental health clients and their families.

Parent Support Services provides mental health treatment, support, and case management to Ventura County parents receiving either Family Reunification or Family Preservation services. Therapeutic services will support parents to navigate their own historical trauma, substance use, and/or domestic violence experiences that impact healthy family functioning and preserve the family unit (permanency).
Under the direction of the Regional Director of Ventura County, the Peer Partner is responsible for providing specialized support for parents involved in the child welfare system who may be struggling with substance abuse disorders, and or domestic violence. This role is also responsible for providing and implementing the peer support and case management component of the overall treatment plan and will manage cases of assigned clients within the program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (illustrated by typical activities):
Position requires staff must be at least 21 years of age. Completed and cleared Livescan, criminal statement, health screening with TB test. Must undergo a one-hour training which reviews mandatory reporting requirements as per Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA). This training takes place during pre-service orientation training and periodically thereafter.
Valid driver’s license is required for transporting youth. Any changes that occur on your driving record must be reported immediately to your supervisor.

CREDENTIALS: Therapeutic Crises Intervention (TCI). certification, Community First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification, preferred.
