  BWCH Mental Health Service- Forward Thinking Birmingham

  We are looking for motivated and passionate Peer Support Workers who have successfully completed the FTB/ IMROC Peer Support Programme and are committed to delivering high quality peer support to our service users in the community mental health services.

  Applicants should be able to communicate effectively, drawing upon their own experiences of mental distress to provide authentic support to their Peers and use their personal recovery journey to inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible in the people they are supporting. You should have good organisational skills, be able to manage a varying workload efficiently and work as part of a team.

  Main duties of the job

  • To use their own lived experience of mental health difficulties to support other people in their recovery from mental health difficulties.
  • To promote recovery outcomes such as hope, empowerment, self-esteem and self-efficacy, social inclusion, and engagement.
  • Peer supportis an important intervention inmental health services due toits positive recovery outcomes for service users.

  Essential

  • Satisfactory level of Secondary education to GCSE English A-C grade or 9-4 grade or equivalent (may be working toward this).
  • Completion of a Peer Support Worker Programme supplied by BWC Mental Health Services or an alternative source

  Desirable

  • Level of education to NVQ 3/AS level or equivalent
  • Mental Health or Health and Social Care related qualification.

  Knowledge and Experience

  Essential

  • Lived experience of and/or being a carer of others experiencing mental distress and recovery
  • Experience of being a supportive and enabling role
  • Ability to use personal experiences to support others and demonstrate empathy
  • Ability to carry out practical tasks
  • Able to create a safe environment and use techniques to reduce anxiety and understand conflict

  Desirable

  • Experience of working in a healthcare setting
  • Experience or training, teaching, coaching/mentoring others
  • Experience working with people with mental health problems

  Analytical and Judgement Skills

  Essential

  • Ability to partake in auditing the impact of peer support
  • Ability to use judgement & know when to escalate risk
  • Able to understand and adhere to the boundaries of peer support working
