- Advising on the appropriateness, precedents and process for petitions and appeals, and suggesting alternative course of action as necessary
- Writing routine documents and correspondence
- Formulating petitions for special consideration
- Providing detailed information to committee members on petition and/or appeal rules, guidelines and procedures
- Reviewing and assessing petitions for special consideration
- Leading seminars and/or workshops
- Resolving issues within the scope of the role and escalating problems as required
- Directing the activities of casual staff
- Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum four (4) years of related work experience in registrarial and/or academic advising to students in a post-secondary environment.
- Experience interpreting and applying academic policies, regulations and procedures.
- Knowledge of FIPPA (Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act).
- Demonstrated experience advising students and experience working with students under emotional stress.
- Strong computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office including Word and Excel.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Familiarity with a student database system such as ROSI/ACORN or similar student information database system.
- Strong verbal and written communication, organizational and multi-tasking skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to provide quality service to students in a fast-paced customer service environment.

- Knowledge of petition and appeal guidelines and procedures in a post-secondary environment.

Your opportunity:Working under the direction of the Assistant Registrar, Petitions, you will be responsible to review and issue decisions on routine petitions submitted by students to the Office of the Registrar. You will identify petitions that involve more complex issues and escalate them as necessary. You will also provide detailed information on processes, policies, and procedures, advising students on appropriateness and precedents for petitions and appeals and suggesting alternative course of action as necessary. In addition, you will liaise with instructors and academic departments to gather information and ensure the timely resolution of petitions.

USW Pay Band 12 -- $78,308 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $100,144. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
