- Relevant advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of Primary Care Networks, General Practice and evidence based medicine.
- An appreciation of the NHS agenda and Government targets.
- Awareness of systems to support management of patients in a primary care setting, delivering pharmaceutical input and support in the context of pathways of care and the business of the organisation.
- Awareness of GP budget-management and funding systems to enable GP clinical pharmacist services to assist delivery of PCN and NHS priorities and requirements for financial balance and quality.
- Good clinical pharmacy knowledge including terminology.
- An appreciation of the nature of primary care prescribing, concepts of rational prescribing and strategies for the improvement of prescribing.
- Knowledge and understanding of pharmacy law and ethics and current legislation.
- 2 years experience in a hospital, community or primary care pharmacy.
- Primary care experience.
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
- Clear, polite telephone manner.
- Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office packages and case management systems.
- Knowledge of the principles of medication optimisation.
- Good pharmacy knowledge including terminology.
- An appreciation of the nature of primary care prescribing, concepts of rational prescribing and strategies for improvement of prescribing
- Knowledge and understanding of pharmacy law and ethics and current legislation.
- Understanding of current national policies, in particular those that impact on medicines management services.
- Effective time management (Planning & Organising).
- High levels of analytical literacy skills
- Organised with good time management.
- Ability to follow policy and procedure.
- Systemone / Emis user skills.
- Experience of medicines reconciliation.
- Understanding of community pharmacy systems.
- Ability to develop and implement policy and procedure to sustain a quality service.
- Understanding of QOF.
- Works effectively independently and as a member of a team.
- Flexible approach to meet service needs and ensure a stakeholder focused response.
- Self-motivated and proactive.

- GPhC Registered Pharmacy Technician.
- BTEC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in pharmacy services.
- Enrolled in, undertaking or qualified from, an approved training pathway. For example, the Primary Care Pharmacy Educational Pathway (PCPEP) or Medicines Optimisation in Care Homes (MOCH).

Job summary
Modality PartnershipMid Sussex Division has a part-time vacancy (upto 30 hours per week) for a Pharmacy Technician to join our established pharmacy team at the Modality Mid Sussex GP partnership. The successful post holder will be working alongside other pharmacy colleagues within the practice to ultimately improve medicines safety, prescribing and further develop the role that pharmacy technicians can play in this new fast paced and continually developing area of work.. We are seeking dedicated postholders to join our team and who can display our CARE values: Commitment, Accountability.
This job is suitable for individuals who are career driven and have a passion for patient care and supporting patients with their health outcomes. Working with the wider team such as Pharmacists, Prescribing teams, and GPs to ensure prescribing targets are met and changes are made in a timely manner.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be a pharmacy technician registered with the General Pharmacy Council. They will work within their professional boundaries to support the objectives of the GP, clinical and pharmacy team. They are key to maximising the safe prescribing of medications across the partnership, ensuring that targets for monitoring common medications are met and working with colleagues to enhance medicines optimisation and increase patient safety. The pharmacy technician will also play an important role in efficient prescribing, working to improve repeat prescribing processes and medicines reconciliation. Working within guidelines and competencies agreed with the Lead Pharmacist, they will also engage directly with patients, helping them to better understand and benefit from their medications. Patient safety sits at the heart of all these activities.
The role is not a regular 9am-5pm job; the job requires innovation, flexibility, and commitment and the postholder will be required to work resourcefully as part of the team to ensure tasks are completed.
