- Develop, implement, and manage system-wide pharmacy technician training programs covering core competencies such as medication dispensing, sterile IV compounding, non-sterile compounding, repackaging, and automation.
- Serve as the subject matter expert on pharmacy technician operations and training, ensuring the consistent application of best practices across the system.
- Conduct training needs assessments to identify skill gaps and tailor programs to meet evolving operational and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with pharmacy leadership, human resources, and external vendors to provide high-quality training resources and materials.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through competency assessments, feedback surveys, and performance data to continuously enhance training delivery.
- Provide input on budget planning for pharmacy technician training programs, including resource allocation for materials, technology, and travel.
- Ensure cost-effective training by optimizing resource use and improving technician performance, thus reducing errors and rework.
- Track and report on training program expenditures, ensuring adherence to budget targets and organizational priorities.
- Identify opportunities for financial improvement by enhancing technician productivity and skill utilization.
- Provide supervision and leadership to pharmacy technicians undergoing training, ensuring engagement, growth, and professional development.
- Mentor technicians to improve competency in critical areas such as automation technology, medication handling, and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Develop and implement standardized training policies, procedures, and protocols that align with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
- Lead the recruitment and selection process for technicians enrolled in the training program, ensuring they meet the qualifications and standards necessary for success.
- Recognize and reward high-performing technicians while addressing underperformance through corrective actions as needed.
- Coordinate and deliver training sessions focused on key pharmacy operations, including medication dispensing workflows, compounding techniques, and inventory management.
- Provide hands-on training for pharmacy automation systems such as Pyxis, Swisslog, and EHR tools to enhance technician capabilities.
- Provide in-depth training on sterile and hazardous drug compounding practices to ensure compliance with USP 797 and USP 800 standards.
- Develop and implement competency assessments to ensure pharmacy technicians are fully trained to perform their duties safely and effectively.
- Serve as the point of contact for addressing training-related issues, questions, and system updates for pharmacy automation and informatics tools.
- Align technician training programs with ProMedica's strategic priorities, including safety, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance goals.
- Participate in pharmacy leadership meetings to provide updates on training initiatives, outcomes, and areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as quality improvement and risk management, to integrate training programs with system-wide initiatives.
- Utilize data-driven approaches to refine training content, focusing on continuous improvement in pharmacy operations and outcomes.
- Implement strategies to increase technician engagement, retention, and satisfaction through professional development opportunities.
- Adapt to new projects, responsibilities, or initiatives as directed by pharmacy leadership.
- Support cross-functional activities that contribute to the success of pharmacy services and overall system performance.

- Ohio Board of Pharmacy Intern License and P4 status in schooling

- Certified Pharmacy Technician required (either PTCB or ExCPT (NHA) exam permitted), unless has intern license
- Achievement of CPhT-Adv certification through PTCB, unless has intern license

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Manager, Pharmacy Technician Training and Development, is responsible for creating, coordinating, and delivering comprehensive training programs for pharmacy technicians throughout the ProMedica system. This position collaborates with pharmacy leadership and automation teams to maintain compliance with operational, safety, and regulatory standards. The role focuses on developing a highly skilled workforce by improving competencies in areas such as medication dispensing, sterile and non-sterile compounding, repackaging, and the use of pharmacy automation and technologies (e.g., Pyxis, Swisslog). Direct Reports: Pharmacy technicians enrolled in training and other support staff.
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the AVP, Pharmacy Acute Care Services, the Manager, Pharmacy Technician Training and Development is responsible for designing and implementing technician training programs to support pharmacy operations. The position emphasizes skill development, adherence to all laws, regulations, and standards, and the effective use of pharmacy automation/technology. The Manager will ensure consistency and high performance across all training initiatives to meet the needs of Promedica's system-wide pharmacy services.

Key Responsibilities
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent, 18 years of age.
Skills: Expertise in pharmacy operations, including dispensing, sterile and non-sterile compounding, and repackaging. Proficiency in pharmacy automation systems (e.g., Pyxis, Swisslog, EHR systems). Strong leadership and organizational skills to manage multiple training initiatives. Effective communication and presentation skills to engage pharmacy technicians and stakeholders. Knowledge of USP 797/800 standards and other relevant pharmacy regulations. Ability to analyze performance data and adjust training programs for continuous improvement.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Associate’s degree in a healthcare-related field
Years of Experience: Seven to ten years of experience in health-system management or pharmacy training and development
Certification: Certification in sterile compounding, pharmacy informatics, or leadership training programs.
Skills: Experience with Lean or Six Sigma methodologies for performance improvement. Advanced skills in data analytics and reporting for training evaluation.
