      Position Summary
      This position supports the phlebotomy supervisor and in all blood collection procedures. Leads the performance of blood collections, ensuring patient care is of utmost importance, and that staff are working to deliver efficient, accurate, and best in class patient care.

      Essential Duties

      1. Leads the work of co-workers by providing effective direction, guidance and resources as appropriate.
      2. Schedules daily staff duties, including lunch breaks, to align patient volumes with phlebotomist functions to ensure a minimal wait time and accurate care.
      3. Optimizes phlebotomy order accuracy, collection accuracy. Improves workflow and processes to ensure all collections are done timely, accurately, and safely. Performs projects as directed by the phlebotomy supervisor.
      4. Monitors workflow to enhance patient experience and keep wait times low by utilizing standard procedures.
      5. Measures performance of the team daily, communicates improvements required, and goes above and beyond to provide world class phlebotomy services.
      6. Ensures order accuracy before collecting specimens. Performs venipuncture. Performs sweat test collections. Reports adverse reactions to supervisor and nursing staff.
      7. Prepares, processes, labels and stores patient specimens and samples according to departmental procedures using standard techniques and equipment. Performs transportation of lab samples to the main lab when necessary.
      8. Trains and lead in the orientation of new staff members.
      9. Maintains and improves electronic and operational process flows.

      Minimum Qualifications

      1. Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. College level courses in Biology, related life sciences and/or medical terminology is preferred.
      2. Work Experience: A minimum of 2 years of recent phlebotomy experience in a medical office or other healthcare setting required.
      3. Special Training, Certification or Licensure: BLS certification required. Current Phlebotomy Certification preferred (documentation of successful completion of a formal program is preferred). Phlebotomy Technician, PBT (ASCP) preferred.

      Salary Range: $20.00 - $27.07
