Position: Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner with Certification in a Primary Care discipline

Schedule: One Day per week; 8 Hours per day. (Regular day to be determined.)

Location: Buncombe County Detention Center, Asheville, NC

Pay Rate: Starting at $64.00 per hour; rising commensurate with experience

Responsibilities:

• Conduct History & Physicals (H&Ps) for assigned patients

• Assess and treat acute/chronic medical problems and provide direct patient care in a correctional setting

• Write appropriate orders, including controlled substances, as medically appropriate

• Perform emergency, lifesaving procedures during emergent situations

• Notify supervising or collaborating Physician of any unusual or unexpected events or problems requiring direct Physician consultation

• Practice safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods

• Document promptly and properly

• Help educate patients about their condition (if any) and treatment

• Respond to requests from security staff and MEDIKO staff; observe rules and regulations, and chain of command at all times within the facility

• Provide on-call services as assigned by the facility and/or company needs

Qualifications

• Active state license as Physician Assistant or APRN/ARNP with Certification in a Primary Care discipline

• Must hold--or be willing to obtain DEA registration

• Hold current/active CPR/BLS certification prior to start date (American Heart Association/American Red Cross guideline approved)
