Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Neurodisability Team at Great Ormond Street Hospital as a Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner in the Children's Movement Disorders Service.
The Movement Disorders Service at GOSH provides a range of highly specialistmultidisciplinary Outpatient Assessment Clinics and rehabilitation interventions after selective dorsal rhizotomy (a neuro surgical operation for children with cerebral palsy).
We are looking for a motivated and confident person to join the team to support children with cerebral palsy and other neurological conditions who attend our service. The post involves direct patient and family contact, working with Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists to assess children with neurodisability and support treatment interventions after selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) neurosurgery, including hydrotherapy.
Main duties of the job
You will need to be confident interacting with children with physical and learning needs and be a skilled child motivator to support them duringpost-surgical rehabilitation.
Please be aware there is a large physical component, and you will need to be able to work on the floor and at different levels, supporting children through their programmes. You will need to be water confident. You will also be required to undertake day to day supportive tasks including collecting and compiling assessment data, data entry onto the hospital electronic computer system, physically moving therapy equipment, telephoning families and other professionals, and working with the team administrators to ensure the smooth running of the department.
Training and supervision will be provided. Previous experience working with children with special physical and learning needs would be helpful, as would experience delivering physical exercise programmes.
