- Provide overall leadership and direction to the Permitting Specialists, ensuring alignment with company goals and objectives.
- Develop and implement strategies for efficient permit processing across all markets, ensuring compliance with entity requirements and meeting project timelines.
- Oversee the review and submission of permit packages, establishing processes that ensure accuracy and compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Coordinate and foster communication between field teams, internal permitting teams, external permitting contractors, and permitting entity agents to streamline permit submissions and resolve issues efficiently.
- Coordinate with the field to develop market priorities to ensure consistent collaboration and production from both permitting and construction teams.
- Establish and enforce quality control measures across all aspects of the permitting process, from field submissions to final approvals.
- Stay current with industry best practices, construction processes, and permitting regulations, and implement necessary changes to improve operations.
- Manage relationships with key external stakeholders, including officials from the Department of Transportation (DOT), railroads, pole owners, and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), to negotiate and resolve high-level permitting challenges.
- Lead and participate in high-level meetings with internal and external stakeholders to provide updates, address concerns, and drive the permitting process forward.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of training programs for the Permitting team to ensure continuous improvement and compliance with industry standards.
- Monitor departmental performance against established metrics, making adjustments as necessary to meet production goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned by senior management.
- Occasional travel may be required by company necessity (up to 5%) Quarterly to the regional markets of responsibility.
- Highschool diploma or GED Required, Associates preferred
- 5 years of experience in permitting or a related field, with at least 3 years in a management role overseeing teams.
- Extensive knowledge of permitting processes, including DOT, railroad, and DNR regulations.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with a proven ability to mentor and develop talent.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and experience with PDF tools such as Bluebeam/Nuance.
- In-depth experience with plats or maps, and familiarity with construction practices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to negotiate and manage relationships at all levels.
- Proven ability to manage multiple high-priority projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
- Availability for after-hours and weekend work as needed.
