Qualifications:
- Have a Level 2 English qualification (Grade C/4 or above) AND
- Have a Level 3 qualification or 2 A level's or ‘an academic or vocational qualification gained outside England and Wales which is considered by the UK National Recognition Information Centre to be equivalent to a level 3 qualification.
- Alternatively, 12 months relevant policing experience will be accepted in place of the Level 3 qualification. This includes Special Constables with IPS, Police Community Support Officers (PCSO's), PSI's and PSIO's, Detention/Escort Officer (DEO's) or within Force Contact.
- Alternatively, 4+ years current military service is accepted in place of the level 3 qualification

- Candidates are required to be UK resident for the last three years. You must be a British, Irish or EEA National, alternatively you must have no restrictions on your right to live and work in the UK.

As a Police Officer you'll play a vital role in ensuring that the communities of the West Midlands are kept safe. It isn’t easy but it is rewarding and can be a career like no other. We want people to join us who have a range of life experiences and backgrounds; it is important that we represent all of the communities that we serve.
This entry route is a 2 year programme with no academic learning requirements, nor academic accreditation.
Upon joining West Midlands Police, you will carry out an initial training period at Tally Ho Learning & Development Centre in Edgbaston, Birmingham. During this time there will be teaching from Police trainers, plus inputs from specialist teams for personal safety training, first aid and IT systems.
Following this period of initial training, you will be posted to a Local Policing Area, which could be anywhere within the West Midlands Police Force area. We take into account where people live, with careful thought to minimising travelling time and costs for every officer.
On first arriving at their Local Policing Area posting, students will be supported by a Tutor Constable, for a minimum of 18 weeks. During this time, the Tutor Constable will support the students to put their skills learned during initial training into practice in an operational environment. Students will work a 24/7 shift pattern, responding to calls for service from the public.
Once students have successfully completed their tutored phase, they will continue to work in an operational setting and will work towards completion of a portfolio to assess operational competence. This portfolio is expected to be completed by the end of Year 2.
DC IPLDP+ is different to IPLDP+, as it is designed to take the student officer on a 2 year journey towards becoming a Detective Constable. Students will be required to take the National Investigators Exam before the end of Year 2, and may commence an additional portfolio to begin to evidence competence as a Detective. The operational postings for DC IPLDP+ students will include attachments into departments which investigate complex and serious crimes in order to expose the students to the reality of a career as a Detective.
Salary
You will start on £28,551 per annum and this will increase with yearly increments meaning you can earn up to £46,044 within 7 years of starting your training!

Recruitment Process:

When sent the vetting and medical forms, make sure they are completed within 48 hours of arrival or as quickly as possible.
Recruitment Stage:
Please ensure you a ttach images of your certificates and tattoos - all we need to see is your Level 2 English and your level 3 qualification or proof of the equivalent.
Candidates from outside the UK – Candidates are required to be UK resident for the last three years. You must be a British, Irish or EEA National, alternatively you must have no restrictions on your right to live and work in the UK. You will be required to provide immigration and Right to Work Status.
Selection Stage:
Complete the National Sift – If eligible, an automated invitation email will be sent for you to complete an online National Sift process involving two exercises:
You will have 7 days to complete the exercises and these can be completed in any order you prefer, and at any time of day.
Complete the Online Assessment Centre– you will be made aware whether or not you have been successful once we are in receipt of your results. If you are unsuccessful, you will have the opportunity to reapply and re-sit the assessment after 3 months.
Complete the In Force Interview - If successful at the Online Assessment Centre, you will complete an in person interview assessing against the competencies of a Police Officer.
Onboarding Stage:
Vetting and Medical Checks -You will be sent two vetting forms and one medical form
Attend a FAB Day (Fitness and Biometric Tests) – When applying for the role you must be able/ready to run the bleep test to a level of 5.4 (there are videos on YouTube to help you practice and you are allowed three attempts)
Receive an Offer and a Starting Date – Once you have completed your fitness test and all vetting and medical checks are complete you will receive an offer and start date in the coming weeks; we have start dates available from November 2023 onwards.

Appointment to this role will be dependent upon successfully medical checks, which may include a drugs test and if required a fitness test.
