      Req#: 27465

Syensqo is all about chemistry. We’re not just referring to chemical reactions here, but also to the magic that occurs when the brightest minds get to work together. This is where our true strength lies. In you. In your future colleagues and in all your differences. And of course, in your ideas to improve lives while preserving our planet’s beauty for the generations to come.

      We are looking for:

Polymer Physics Intern. Much of the thermodynamic and rheological behavior of polymer melts, blends, and alloys can be described semi-quantitatively by existing physical theories. These equations typically involve a relatively small number of structural and thermodynamic parameters that are specific to the chemistries and systems under consideration. Examples include density, thermal expansion coefficient, packing length, persistence length, cohesive energy density, etc. Although many of these have been calculated for some of our materials, they have not yet been thoroughly catalogued for all base resins and common blend components. This project will use a variety of standardized molecular simulation techniques to develop a database of these parameters for all SpP base resins, with possible extensions to homopolymer systems or high-performance polymers not currently in the group portfolio (e.g. ether imides). The data generated can also serve as a basis for developing coarse-grained models for multiscale simulation efforts.

      We count on you:

      • For this project, a familiarity with molecular simulation methods is required, so the most promising candidates will be current graduate students given the short timeframe of the internship program and the specialized technical skills required. There may also be work authorization or citizenship requirements to comply with export control. Specific skills desired are listed below.

You can count on us for:

      • Long-lasting excellent customer relations, self-dependent working, and a variety of tasks in one of the world’s leading chemical companies.
      • Excellent training & development possibilities. (Value for the candidate, growth and learning opportunities)

      You will bring:

      • Must be pursuing PH.D in computational chemistry, physics, materials science, chemical engineering, or related field
      • Familiarity with molecular dynamics simulations of polymer systems using open-source codes (Gromacs, LAMMPS, etc.)
      • Basic understanding of polymer physics, chain conformations, structure, and properties
      • Python/C++/Julia programming skills

      You will get:

      • Industry experience in a chemical manufacturing facility
      • Competitive pay

      About us

      • Syensqo is a science company developing groundbreaking solutions that enhance the way we live, work, travel and play. Inspired by the scientific councils which Ernest Solvay initiated in 1911, we bring great minds together to push the limits of science and innovation for the benefit of our customers, with a diverse, global team of more than 13,000 associates. Our solutions contribute to safer, cleaner, and more sustainable products found in homes, food and consumer goods, planes, cars, batteries, smart devices and health care applications. Our innovation power enables us to deliver on the ambition of a circular economy and explore breakthrough technologies that advance humanity.
      • At Syensqo, we seek to promote unity and not uniformity. We value the diversity that individuals bring and we invite you to consider a future with us, regardless of background, age, gender, national origin, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, ability or identity. We encourage individuals who may require any assistance or accommodations to let us know to ensure a seamless application experience. We are here to support you throughout the application journey and want to ensure all candidates are treated equally. If you are unsure whether you meet all the criteria or qualifications listed in the job description, we still encourage you to apply.
      • As you may already know, Syensqo is the newly established standalone company resulting from the recent spin-off of Solvay. While both organizations are in the process of finalizing the transition, some email communications related to your recruitment process may continue to come from Solvay.
