Overview
This position is in the Center for Perinatal Research in Dr. Thomas Lynch’s lab. We are seeking a motivated postdoctoral scholar to join our lab group. Our team is focused on developing basic and translational models of lung disease. Specifically, we use ferrets to address open knowledge gaps in pulmonary physiology and lung epithelium function, maintenance, and regeneration. The postdoc will be expected to advance scientific studies and develop hypotheses for further investigation with her/his/their results. A successful postdoc is expected to prepare technical materials such as abstracts, annual reports, scientific papers and presentations; publish scientific articles in appropriate refereed journals; works toward a goal of becoming independent in her/his/their research effort; and apply for and eventually obtain external research funding. A Post Doc is an appointment with a maximum of 5 years in length.
Dr. Lynch’s research Profile:
Dr. Lynch is a new principal investigator in the Center for Perinatal Research. His research interests aim to bridge critical gaps in understanding lung disease to facilitate the discovery of new therapeutics.
Previously, Dr. Lynch was a K99 NHLBI research scholar and postdoctoral research fellow in the department of surgery within the University of Iowa, where he trained under the co-mentorship of Drs. Kalpaj Parekh and John Engelhardt. His work focused on chronic rejection following lung transplantation with a focus on lung stem cells and their microenvironments.
Throughout his tenure at the University of Iowa, he authored 27 publications. Notably, Dr. Lynch’s publications focus on using small and large animal models to investigate airway epithelial stem cells, revealing and addressing critical knowledge gaps in lung epithelial regeneration. He has also begun to interrogate mechanisms of stem cell depletion using longitudinal single-cell RNA sequencing analysis.
