      For over 25 years, Southwest Care Center has been providing exceptional healthcare to the communities of Santa Fe and Albuquerque, NM. We are a non-profit, FQHC-LAL providing medical, behavioral health, case management, community outreach, diabetes education, and pharmacy services. We are proud to offer gender equity medicine, syringe exchange, and HIV/HepC treatment, testing and other services within our communities.

      Southwest Care Center is currently seeking a full-time Primary Care Billing and Coding Specialist II. This position is a Remote/Hybrid role, with a monthly rotation in clinic with one or two days on-site or as needed.

      Position Details:

      Under the direction of the Director of Revenue Cycle Management, the Billing & Coding Specialist ll is responsible for maintaining the financial health of Southwest Care Center through compliant billing, coding, collections, and write-off policies; and to serve as the primary financial point-of-contact for patients. This role requires previous knowledge of EMR (electronic medical record) and Practice Management software.

      Position responsibilities include but not limited to:
      • Respond to billing inquiries from patients and third-party payers.
      • May consult with Physicians and other clinical staff to clarify documentation and interpret clinical information.
      • Acts as a coding resource to clinical staff.
      • Verify accuracy of diagnosis and CPT codes on Encounters.
      • Approve claims each day in Practice Management software. Sends out patient statements. Posts insurance and patient payments.
      • Verify patient accountability by ensuring all other payment avenues have been exhausted.
      • Maintains competency and awareness of all coding changes that affect services that are provided throughout the organization.
      • Work Aging reports.
      • Participates in staff meetings and attends other meetings and seminars as requested.
      • Other duties as assigned.


      Candidate Highlights :
      • Preference given to those with 2+ years of previous medical coding and billing experience
      • High School Diploma or GED; Completion of an accredited coding training program.
      • CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or CCS-P (Certified Coding Specialist-Physician) - or 2+ years of experience in lieu of certification preferred.
