      Job Title

      Principal Global Process Engineer - Firing SME

      As the Principal Global Process Engineer, you will operate as the company’s engineering subject matter expert for the critical ceramic manufacturing processes of firing, combustion systems, refractory and system design, stability and control.
      Responsible for understanding all aspects of firing systems within the company including but not limited to equipment installation and commissioning, materials of construction, equipment suppliers, services, controls, troubleshooting, and safety concerns You will be the key receiver of new developments and new firing processes from R&D to manufacturing. Accountable for producing yield improvements, executing technology transfers and increasing the efficiency of existing capital equipment in their SME area on a global scale. This is a non-supervisory position but will be accountable for providing engineering leadership for their area of expertise.

      Role & Responsibilities:

      • Responsible for problem solving activities for complex issues that involve the firing process and associated equipment.
      • Key interface with manufacturers that supply firing equipment to the company from specification setting through implementation into manufacturing.
      • May act as internal consultant providing technical guidance on most complex projects.
      • Instructing, directing, and checking the work of other Regional / Plant process engineers.
      • Determine the operations required for fabrication and assembly of products by reviewing parts drawings, specifications, and other engineering data.
      • May develop sequence of operations, estimate time requirements for each, and prepare operation sheets.
      • Identify key yield improvement projects, leads cross functional teams to execute complex projects that have a substantial impact on business operations, utilizing structured problem-solving methodologies.
      • Work with the corporate portfolio manager to align work to corporate objectives.
      • Track project status and results, providing reports to stakeholders.
      • Work with the corporate portfolio manager to align work to the Balanced Scorecard, corporate objectives.
      • Remove and elevates project barriers, as well as develops and implements recovery plans for off schedule and unanticipated events.
      • In conjunction with Corporate Engineering, identify process improvement opportunities, builds business cases, and launches project teams using good project management to oversee team activities.
      • Identify and propagates Best Practices for the business, through benchmarking and networking with Process Engineers at other organizations/companies and within the organization.
      • Effectively communicate with all levels to maintain relationships and cooperation in pursuing the Business unit’s goals. Must be able to influence, negotiate, and resolve conflicts to reach consensus around common goals.
      • Act as a technical resource for statistical analysis tools/methodology, project management, Lean Six Sigma, quality and basic financial principles and apply them to analyze the planned activities.
      • Lead fundamental understanding projects with operations process owners, drives process control of the inputs as part of the Process Control System. block for CoorsTek Operations Roadmap to Excellence.
      • Is pro-active, analytical, process driven, with a strong focus on understanding and exceeding the expectations of the customer.
      • Responsible to stay connected to the firing industry through industry publications and conferences, transfers knowledge of technology trends and methodologies to key personnel across the company.
      • Able to present, message, and work directly with customers in problem solving and product introduction.

      Job Requirements:

      Education:

      • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering, in Mechanical, Chemical, or Ceramic Engineering preferre or related engineering discipline; Master’s degree a plus.
      • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification a plus.
      • Project Management certification a plus.

      Experience:

      • Minimum of ten years of technical Engineering experience preferably in thermal processing of materials.
      • Minimum of five years of experience leading successful projects of significant impact and visibility.

      Functional/Technical Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

      • Highly skilled in high temperature firing of ceramics.
      • Experience with Vacuum furnaces a plus.
      • Experience performing mass and heat balance calculations.
      • Knowledge of refractory materials and refractory insulation systems.
      • Knowledge of ceramic material properties, and methods of material analysis.
      • Experience commissioning equipment for large capital projects.
      • Experience in air pollution control and mitigation systems preferred.
      • Diverse technical background experience required, knowledge of mechanical, electrical and materials engineering preferred.
      • Experience implementing/applying Lean, TOC, Six Sigma or other TQM process improvement theologies in a manufacturing environment.
      • Experience in an automated engineering environment.
      • Software knowledge: MS Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, AutoDesk Inventor and MasterCAM.
      • Must be able to work with a diverse variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds.

      Job Specific Requirements:

      • Travel up to 50% (domestic and international)
      • Location: On-Site (Golden, CO. preferred, other locations considered: Benton, AR., East Granby, CT., Hillsboro, OR., Milford, NH., Oak Ridge, TN., Worcester, MA.)

      Target Hiring Range

      Annual Salary: USD 124,786.00 - USD 171,581.00
