      Req#: 202311-124877

At Genentech Research & Early Development (gRED) we have initiated an exciting journey to bring together and further strengthen our computational talent and capabilities by forming a new, central organization - gRED Computational Sciences (gCS). gCS is on a mission to partner across the organization to realize the potential of data, technology and computational approaches that will revolutionize how targets and therapeutics are discovered and developed, ultimately enabling novel treatments for patients across the world. We stand at the beginning of an exciting journey. Computational Biology and Translation focuses on analyses and methods in partnership with research and clinical scientists across therapeutic areas to provide insights that drive our drug development pipeline.

      Job Description

The Computational Biology and Translation Pillar of gCS is seeking talented and highly motivated Principal Bioinformatics Scientist to lead our fibrosis analytics efforts. Our team provides computational insights to enable the clinical development of novel therapeutics in disease areas of Ophthalmology, Metabolism, Neuroscience, Immunology and Infectious Diseases (OMNI). Our analysis strategies are designed to study the molecular pathways driving disease pathobiology and to establish the mechanism of action of our therapeutics. We focus on prognostic, predictive and pharmacodynamic biomarkers to enable our vision of “the right drug for the right patient at the right dose”. The candidate will be responsible for defining the overall computational strategy within the disease area, and perform analyses of large-scale, high-dimensional datasets from clinical trials and cross-sectional studies.

      Responsibilities

The successful candidate will join our cross functional team and support our activities in discovering and developing biomarkers relevant to the biology of chronic kidney disease and interstitial lung disease.

This position will involve use of advanced tools including ML/AI approaches for analysis of high-dimensional genomics data including, but not limited to: single cell RNA-seq, single cell ATAC-seq, and spatial transcriptomics.

The position requires working in collaboration with colleagues across Research, Translational Medicine, Development Sciences and Early Clinical Development. Effective communication is an essential skill for this role, which includes presentations at cross-functional teams, external conferences and communications with regulatory bodies.

      Who You Are

Successful candidates will meet many of the following requirements:

      • Candidates must have a PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or a related discipline

      • You have postdoctoral experience in basic or translational research either in an academic or industry setting with a record of publication in lead positions.

      • Candidates may have previous experience in fibrotic disease or kidney disease

      • The candidate must be able to demonstrate a high degree of technical excellence, using state of the art methods

      • A record of high impact scientific achievement, as evidenced by high impact publications and meeting abstracts.

      • The candidate must have demonstrated expertise using innovative methods for analyzing high dimensional data.

      • We are looking for an individual who thrives in a collaborative space, and is passionate about our mission to make impactful contributions to the drug development process.

Not sure you meet all qualifications? Let us decide! Research shows that women and members of other under-represented groups tend to not apply to jobs when they think they may not meet every qualification, when, in fact, they often do! We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment and strongly encourage you to apply.
