      Job summary

      An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time (37.5 hours), Band 7 Professional Lead Occupational Therapist for adult mental health within the Torfaen borough.

      The successful applicant will work clinically on the Talygarn inpatient unit, with a dedicated caseload and will be expected to work flexibly to meet the demands of the service. Alongside clinical duties, the post holder will provide occupational therapy clinical leadership as well as management responsibilities for the occupational therapy staff across the adult mental health services spanning the Torfaen borough. They will also represent occupational therapy within Torfaen, form part of the senior occupational therapy team in adult mental health, and the senior multi-disciplinary staff team within Torfaen.

      The occupational therapy service within adult mental health is implementing the Model of Human Occupation across the service, and has embedded Recovery Through Activity as a core intervention across in-patient and community services.

      This is a fantastic opportunity for a forward-thinking occupational therapist who is passionate about mental health and occupational therapy, with sound clinical leadership skills.

      The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

      Main duties of the job

      • To be a team/clinical leader for Occupational Therapists working in designated team, leading by example, demonstrating excellent OT practice and responsiveness to emerging evidence.
      • To provide specialist assessment, advice and intensive intervention for people requiring OT.
      • To provide expert OT advice, joint working and give second opinions concerning highly complex cases
      • To make highly skilled evaluations and decisions about OT intervention.
      • To have operational management responsibility for all Occupational Therapists within designated team.
      • To lead in the planning, development and evaluation of OT services for designated team, holding responsibility for defined projects.
      • To initiate, implement specific audit, research and development projects relating to OT practice/service delivery within designated team.
      • To provide training and development opportunities within the OT team.
      • To provide OT practice leadership to colleagues in the team and mentorship to OT colleagues in other teams who require specialist guidance.
      • To hold the financial responsibility for authorising time sheets and expenses claims.
      • To undertake operational and management duties including, planning and implementation of the OT service; working in conjunction with the appropriate clinical leads.
      • To develop robust professional relationships with other OT services, the multi-disciplinary team, primary, community, Local Authority and Third Sector colleagues to enhance service provision
