      What We Do

      The Program Director of Underwriting Learning & Development (L&D) is responsible for creating, managing, and facilitating Underwriting L&D programs and projects, with complex interdependencies, on an ongoing and regular basis. Responsible for content creation, content management, design, and project planning. Recruits, coordinates, and instructs senior underwriters who serve as facilitators for the programs. Leads training sessions for participants in the programs. Works with strategy and articulates the goals and objectives of the programs and how each program will impact the business. Collaborates with each business division to ascertain training and development needs for underwriters at all levels of experience.

      Essential Functions

      • Independently manages multiple Underwriting L&D programs typically large with complex interdependencies

      • Manages strategic aspects of Underwriting L&D programs and ensures progress and attainment of goals

      • Responsible for the creation and execution of all training materials presented in multiple modalities, and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements

      • Develop program deliverables including program roadmaps, plans, scope, and schedules and establish governance

      • Implement engagement review and quality assurance procedures in accordance with company methodology to ensure profitable and successful execution of programs as measured by goals and participant satisfaction

      • Conducts risk monitoring and controls to ensure ability to achieve expected outcomes, on time and on budget

      • Provide strategic input and feedback to corporate underwriting leadership in all divisions

      • Provide critical feedback and individual assessment about program participants to managers and supervisors

      • Partner with program mentors to provide guidance and establish impactful development goals to achieve desired L&D results for program participants

      • Support underwriters by providing materials for continuing education or training programs

      • Partner with business leaders to identify potential L&D opportunities

      • Consistently evaluate underwriting competencies as established and assist with development of additional programs to develop underwriting leaders

      • Provide feedback to underwriting leaders and managers about development and advancement of their employees

      • Identify potential underwriting leaders. Coach and mentor underwriters in transactional underwriting, interpersonal skills, public speaking skills, and other soft skills required to be a successful and well-rounded underwriter

      • Coach facilitators and speakers in public speaking skills (in person and virtual platforms)

      • Mentor the mentors participating in the programs

      • Create original underwriting L&D materials

      • Lead training sessions on a regular, ongoing basis

      • Manage L&D Administrative Assistant or Staff

      Knowledge and Skills/Technology Used

      • Strong leadership and management skills to achieve results and pursue excellence

      • Extensive knowledge of underwriting in commercial and residential transactions

      • Facilitation and presentation of educational seminars and programs

      • Successful track record designing, developing, and executing critical complex projects in more than one area of functional expertise

      • Program management methodologies and techniques, and their application in business and technical environments

      • Excellent planning, time management, effective writing, communication, decision making, presentation, organization, and interpersonal skills

      • MS Office Suite and Adobe software skills (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook, Publisher, Forms)

      • Ability to self-start and be versatile in a dynamic environment

      • Conceptual understanding of current technologies and methodologies to plan and communicate effectively with project team and sponsors

      • Development and management of complex program budgets

      • Strong writing and editing skills

      Education

      • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

      • Advanced degree or certification preferred

      • Law degree preferred

      Experience

      • Typically, 10+ years of directly related experience in title insurance underwriting

      Pay Range: $103,000 - $241,000

      This hiring range is a reasonable estimate of the base pay range for this position at the time of posting. Pay is based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, experience, business requirements and geographic location.
