      The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education (TCRCE) encompasses the three (3) Counties of Shelburne, Yarmouth, and Digby serving approximately 6100 students in twenty-two (22) schools, composed of 13 Elementary Schools, 6 High Schools, 1 Middle School, and 2 Elementary/High Schools.

      Position: Program Lead, School Food Program (Job # 689, Band 7)

      Reports to: Coordinator of Programs and Student Services

      Location: Harbour House (Central Office), Yarmouth NS

      The Program Lead is responsible to plan, coordinate and implement a new School Lunch Program across the Tri-County Regional Centre for Education (TCRCE), including the alignment of existing school food programs, in compliance with related policies and standards. The Program Lead focuses on a multi-phased implementation of school food programs including breakfast, lunch, and other school food programming, requiring specialized knowledge of the principles of nutrition and food services management. This job requires coordination with provincial colleagues, external service providers, cafeteria staff, and key Health Promotion Schools (HPS) partners requiring the ability to influence others to meet program objectives.

      Reporting to the Coordinator, this job operates within specific, well-defined policies to meet objectives. There is a requirement to make recommendations to support provincial planning for school food programs and for determining how implementation will best work within the region, requiring application of judgement.

      Qualifications

      • Minimum of a diploma (preferably in business administration, or food services management);
      • Experience developing and implementing programs in multiple locations ;
      • Experience working with and developing relationships with a variety of community partners;

      Accountabilities

      • Leads a multi-phased implementation of the school lunch program in TCRCE to ensure it is aligned with provincial policy and standards. This includes ongoing collaboration with government and external partners, making recommendations on the design and implementation of school food programs for the region;
      • Leads food services program planning, implementation, and management by representing the region provincially, providing recommendations to support provincial planning for school food programs and determining how implementation will best work within the region. This includes breakfast and lunch programs;
      • Reviews and integrates existing school food programs to align with any new model(s) of food programming being implemented in the TCRCE;
      • Ensures all food programs operating and being implemented in TCRCE schools align with the School Food and Nutrition Policy and supporting documents;
      • Provides support to schools to meet standards and policies and works with necessary partners to ensure school infrastructure is acceptable and schools are adequately equipped;
      • Fosters relationships with principals and administrators, provincial government and other RCE/CSAP counterparts; serves as the TCRCE point person for food services matters;
      • Ensures compliance with proper food safety standards in kitchens, ensures schools have required permits and monitors the quality and consistency of food at all schools across the region;
      • Procures or supports schools to procure food suppliers and/or food service providers and manage contracts and vendor relations. This includes supporting the procurement of service providers and vendors to deliver school food programs;
      • Prepares required monitoring and evaluation reports;
      • Coordinates and participates in mandated nutrition education meetings, professional standards, and training (ordering system, food safety, etc).

      This is a Non Union position, 12 months, and does not follow the school calendar. The salary for this role is band 7 as outlined within the terms and conditions of employment in accordance with the Education Entities Non-Union Compensation Framework.
