- Project management and oversight for the portfolio of Lands projects, including monitoring and delivery of outputs as per agreed frames; contracting and coordination with implementation partners and consultants; budget management; and periodic internal and external reporting
- Stakeholder engagement, including establishing and maintaining productive relationships with governmental agencies; close coordination with implementation partners including building their capacity; and effective coordination across administrative divisions within the NCIS system.
- People management, including effective supervision of technical staff; identifying and addressing capacity gaps; selection and management of external consultants to meet project needs.
- Technical guidance for implementation of project activities, within the overall framework provided by the existing project arrangements; adaptive management as required and upon consultation with relevant stakeholders.
- Project development, including ideation for new/expanded projects; development of concept notes, logical frameworks and proposals; and identification of external collaboration opportunities.
- Technical and financial monitoring of Lands-related conservation work, in support of the overall team
- Liaison across teams within NCIS, for coordination in project work
- Recruits, retains, and manages high quality and effective multi-disciplinary staff, consultants, and partners with responsibility for performance management and successful delivery of projects.
- Supports team members to effectively implement complex projects – both analytical and field-oriented.
- May require frequent travel domestically and/or internationally.
- BA/BS degree and 7 years' experience in conservation practice or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Fundraising experience, including identifying donor prospects and donor cultivation
- Experience managing complex or multiple projects, including managing finances and coordinating the work of other professionals and partners.
- Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives and managing performance.
- Experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, community groups and/or government agencies.
- Experience negotiating.
- MA/MSc degree in a field related to ecology, forestry, natural resource management or another related field of study with at least 11-15 years of experience relevant to this position, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Proven excellence in the management of large projects in the conservation/forestry/natural resource management sector
- Demonstrated experience in managing teams and external implementation partners
- Excellent communication abilities both within teams and outside
- Deep understanding of topics related to forests, conservation and people in India
- A commitment to equitable outcomes for people and nature
- Strong network among institutions and organizations across the above key landscapes of India • Understanding of carbon science and the carbon market
- Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience
- Demonstrated experience influencing, developing and implementing conservation policy and plans.
- Knowledge of current trends and practices in relevant discipline(s) and regions.
- Ability to develop practical applications of scientific concepts and technical innovations for conservation purposes.
- Knowledge of methods and standards of biodiversity information systems and initiatives or related field.
- Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
- Politically savvy.

Nature Conservancy India Solutions Private Limited (NCIS) is one of the group entity of The Nature Conservancy (TNC). NCIS is a private limited company incorporated under the Companies Act 2013, having it registered office in India in New Delhi. India. The company currently provides technical consultancy, monitoring & evaluation, and other related services in the domain of conservation and environment to its various clients within and outside India. NCIS helps its clients in achieving their environmental and conservation targets by providing science-based solutions and technical support. NCIS has been providing services to its various clients for last three years in India.
WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER
The Lands Programme at NCIS has the goal of managing the implementation of land-based conservation and restoration projects in high-priority regions of India including the Himalayas, the Northeast, Western Ghats and Central India. The overall goal of these projects is to achieve biodiversity and climate outcomes, with associated benefits to people. This position is expected to be based in Central India, Bhopal or can also be New Delhi; the specific location can be decided upon mutual agreement. The position will involve a significant amount of travel to all project sites within the regions noted above to ensure implementation of field activities. This position is with an initial two year contract, renewable upon mutual agreement.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe main role of the Program Manager-Lands will be to provide managerial oversight to this portfolio of projects, report regular progress on the Shared Conservation Agenda, and ensure their delivery as per the established goals and outcomes. The range of projects within this portfolio include riparian restoration; restoration within buffers and corridors of protected areas; improved management of community forests through documentation and participatory planning; community conserved areas; and agroforestry within agricultural landscapes. Approaches used in this portfolio of projects include community-based management planning; technical inputs to existing programmes; and market-based approaches to incentivize sustainable use. Projects are implemented via partner organizations and in collaboration with governmental agencies.
