What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Lead the development and implementation of a non-native fish suppression and evaluation program in the Chehalis River
- Apply complex statistical modeling to simulate fish suppression scenarios and predict outcomes
- Conduct original research on the impacts of non-native fish on salmon conservation
- Prepare reports and peer-reviewed publications, and present findings at professional meetings
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and identify funding opportunities for ongoing research
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Doctoral degree in fisheries science, population biology, wildlife ecology, mathematics, or statistics with a focus on animal population management; OR
- Master's degree in a related field with two years of professional experience in wildlife, habitat, or fish-related research; OR
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid driver's license
- Must obtain and maintain valid First Aid and CPR certifications upon appointment
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience in coding and modifying statistical programming languages, particularly R
- Proficiency in data analysis and advanced statistical approaches
- Strong communication skills with experience presenting research to various audiences
- Organizational skills to manage project objectives, work plans, and budgets
- Field experience with fisheries sampling techniques and knowledge of Pacific Northwest freshwater ecology
