      Acting as a key strategic business partner to Business Development/R&D leadership, the Business Development External Insights Manager will support the delivery of opportunity-level, company-level and portfolio-level external insights, enhancing decision-making within Worldwide Business Development and R&D. A key element of the role will be to continue to develop the competitor, external insight and analytics capability for WWBD. As such, the individual will need to take a proactive and entrepreneurial approach.

      The Business Development External Insights Manager will conduct and report analyses, including but not limited to opportunity identification and evaluation, comparative benchmarking and analytics, competitor partnering strategy assessments and portfolio-level competitive intelligence. These analyses have significant business impact, directly and indirectly contributing to partnering decisions and strategy as well as to portfolio-level decision-making.

      In this role you will

      Working both in collaboration with BD colleagues, other Portfolio Competitor Insights team members and independently, Business Development External Insights Manager deliverables include:

      • Evolving a competitive intelligence and external insights capability for WWBD, which will include the provision of both regular and ad hoc external analyses, landscapes and insights.
      • Strategic, company, opportunity and portfolio-level external analyses with a focus on collaborations, in-/out-licensing, investment and acquisitions.
      • Provision of context to support prioritisation of external opportunities for the Business Development Leadership Team and Governance Boards as required, including contextual deal assessment.
      • Proactive provision of analytics and insights to BD leadership team, Strategy & Portfolio and R&D leadership, to inform business decision making.
      • Identification and triaging of external business development opportunities. Including opportunity assessment, monitoring, inflation point tracking and valuation analysis.
      • Research unit support, landscaping, monitoring & analysis.
      • Support with deal comparators, deal term evaluation and precedence
      • Conference support
      • Management of relevant external data sources, BD access and contracting.
      • Management of dedicated offshore FTE resources.
      • Contributing to and influencing the activities of the broader Portfolio Competitor Insights team as required, as well as representing Business Development interests in these activities.

      Why you?

      Basic Qualifications & Skills:

      We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

      • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in biological sciences, pharmacology or other biomedical discipline
      • At least 3 years’ experience in competitive intelligence, BD and/or benchmarking gained either directly within a pharmaceutical company or from within a relevant healthcare CI, benchmarking, or consulting environment
      • Prior experience in stakeholder management and executive communication
      • Solid understanding of pharmaceutical R&D
      • Use of credible qualitative and quantitative analysis to inform high quality strategic and investment decision-making

      Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

      Please note the following skills are not necessary, just preferred, if you do not have them, please still apply:

      • Formal competitive intelligence training or a higher degree in a scientific or business discipline are advantageous
      • Strong knowledge of publicly available and subscription resources for competitor and/or benchmarking information
      • Experience working within or supporting a business development function
      • Experience working with external agencies on competitor analysis projects
      • Understanding of analytical tools and techniques available for asset, portfolio and company valuation
      • Ability to maintain a strategic perspective on a complex external environment while also having the ability to delve into detail when necessary
