      Job summary

The Radiographic Assistant role is at the foundation of our ability to make the difference to our patients. Importantly they provide the cement that binds our Imaging services together, across our dynamic and expanding department. They are often the first point of contact for our patients, this may be face to face or by telephone. Good communication skills are essential.

This role will primarily be based at the Royal Derby Hospital. There may be occasions for service need where the successful candidate may be required to work at one of our other Imaging sites at the Florence Nightingale Community Hospital.

Imaging Departments are integral to any hospital. The majority of patients who visit hospitals will attend an imaging department as part of their treatment. The imaging department teams are large and varied with a range of staff from a vast array of backgrounds, all with differing but perfectly complementing skills. It could not function with such success without each and every member of the team.

You may already have experience working in healthcare and hold an NVQ 2, but this isn't essential. We do however rely on your skills as a "people person" hugely. Your welcoming, reliable and hard- working nature, to greet, screen and assist patients to change prior to examinations and procedures will be crucial. These skills may have been obtained from any number of previous roles or jobs.

      Main duties of the job

Your caring and approachable personality will ensure that the needs of our patients are consistently met, as you are supported by qualified members of our team to adhere to the Trusts 6 C's, CARE and PRIDE principles. This will involve manual handling, movement and positioning of patients with the assistance of the Radiographers to allow their examinations to be done.

Meet and greet patients. Hands on patient care. Chaperoning. Assisting the Imaging Team. The good basic education you have will equip you with the necessary skills to interpret written requests, use a computer to access and input confidential information. It will also enable you to follow instructions and protocols with attention to detail that will be explained to you, but then to manage your own workload and think for yourself as your experience develops. The close relationships that you will develop with your colleagues across the department will allow you to cope with a wide range of situations, some of which may be emotional from time to time.

  • About the company

National Health Service (NHS) is the umbrella term for the publicly-funded healthcare systems of the United Kingdom (UK). The founding principles were that services should be comprehensive, universal and free at the point of delivery—a health service based on clinical need, not ability to pay. Each service provides a comprehensive range of health services, free at the point of use for people ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom apart from dental treatment and optical care.
